How much do you really like Mercedes diesels?

I'm trying to see if anyone likes his or her Mercedes diesel as much as I like mine. I wouldn't classify myself as rich, but I definitely make more than average and the truth is the cars I love so much and own are much cheaper than what I could afford. For example, I used to own a new 2002 Corvette Z06 but guess what made me sell it. I fell in love with an 82 300D, my first Mercedes diesel and I love these cars more than any other.

The question is, would you drive something more expensive if you could afford it (something other than an MB diesel) or are you so hooked on these old diesels that you wouldn't want to drive anything else? By expensive I mean something that has a higher market value. I know very well that these cars were very expensive when they were new.

I have the choice of one of the three cars as a daily driver: 2001 Acura TL, 1991 BMW 735i and 83 MB 300SD. Guess which one is the winner? Hint, the one with the turbo!

hello,
well I also have a choice as to which is my normal driving. I have driven/owned many cars, and what can I say? I just really enjoy cruz'n the mb, but have the other 2 rigs for what they whe're designed to do, the jeep for crawing around on the beach, and my f-250 for towing/hauling/ and whatever needs a truck. my heart just sinks when I see people try to take a real nice car and use it like a jeep or pick-up truck....

My dream garage has a Unimog, a 240d, a e320d and a cummins powered ram, and some nice handling sports car that I'll probably drive less than the mog...or maybe a random useless muscle car. But basically 3 mercedes diesel powered vehicles and a Cummins.

I'm like Diablo-Diesel, I have my truck for towing/hauling/and four wheel drive on the beach if I need it. As for the MB diesels as you can see that is the only other autos that I have. I beleive that they are very dependable and extremely simple to work on if any is needed. I enjoy riding the 240D every day to and from work and the other two guys that car pool with me seem to enjoy it too since they fall asleep on that ride. My wife and son also enjoy thier cars and are always bragging about them.

Without this forum though, I think I wouldn't be so happy with these cars.

I would rather have a Cummins diesel in my '87 GM truck,,,,,and might if the 6.2 fails anytime while the rest of it is in any kind of shape, but for now the 6.2 stays.

It's my ultimate budget car. Bought it for $600, keep it running with junkyard parts, and fuel it for free with vegetable oil.

I bought mine because it is the coolist car I can afford now. I really do like it and I think there will always be a MB diesel in my garage in some form or another. If I could afford to I'd buy a brand new SL600 with a nice warranty! It would be nice not to always have to work on a car. One day I'd like to be able to drop it off at the dealer and let them worry about it.

Im on my 3rd MB Diesel at age 20. I LOVE my 300DT. I will own it for the rest of my life. Sure, older people who hear me say that think otherwise, but as soon as the day comes that I can afford a second car, it will break way into a new part of my 300DT's life... the life of a garage queen.

With that in mind, the only other car I love almost as much as my 300DT is the 2004 Saab 9-5 AERO. That will be my second car, and by the time I can afford it it will be dirt cheap. Thank god Saabs dont hold their resale value!!!! The perfect one would be Nocturne Blue with a tan interior.

But only prior to 1995 or so. I had the 99 E300 turbo diesel. Wonderful car to drive, terrible reliability.
