Rusty Fuses cause problems?
Did any one experience their gauges just go off on the highway? Just wondering? Did you just have to touch the fuses to fix it? Is there eny other fuses that won't rust by any chance?

Benzboy8,
Since the fuse material is made from copper or aluminum, they can not rust. Rust is oxidation of a ferros material I.E. iron or steel. What you are are talking about is corrosion. Sometimes the fuses can be rotated in place and that will wear thru the corrosion. For bad cases, the fuse can be taken out and the corrosion scratched off with a knife. If you can find the copper fuses, replace the lead ones. Copper is less subject to corrosion. Also, make sure the lid to the fuse is not cracked and seals properly. This will help stop corrosion of the fuses. P E H |

Put a touch of greese on the contacts to stop the oxidation.

I once reverse-engineered an original MB fuse. The element is pure tin electroplated onto pure zinc. The replacement fuses are 60% copper/40% zinc.

The peroblem with copper to aluminum is the crossion not rust and you can go to this link MB Part's new & used and get the actual copper fuzes. Mine were all corroided and after replacing all fuses for $10 I had a working rear window heater also.

Buss makes American-style fuses designed to fit in old German fuse boxes.
Or at least they used to. In fact, when Volvoes were equiped with the same ceramic fuses as M-Bs, many Volvo dealers offered a retrofit package at the parts counter, which consisted of all the Buss fuses, with rust-proof plated conical tips and the fuseable strip in glass or plastic, needed to replace every darn German fuse in the whole car all at once and get it over with. Maybe they still have them -- perhaps we should consult brickboard.com (the Volvo do-it-yourselfers' site) again.
