Sunroof on '87 300TD
I have a question about sunroofs.
I recently had mine partialy fail. I popped it "up" and after closing it now it won't "retract" into the roof. It still pops up and down just not back and forward. Does anybody have any clues about this? I can hear the motor &/or cableing running when I try to move it rearward and then forward.

The sunroof in my "wife's car", the '87 TD has the same problem. With the roof popped up I could see that a bracket on the driver's side had broken. It is the driver's side that won't budge. I read somewhere that the whole headliner has to come down and the sunroof taken aprt to gain access. On top of that the part it'self is about $85. Well, I guess that's what A/C is for. This makes me appreciate the manual sunroof in my '83 TD.

CWA, most likely your lifter has broken. I've had mine replaced only to bend the arm also due to misalignment. If your lucky, you can get the lifter for about $70 new. Installation can be rather tricky, but not impossible.
