1980 300 SD - Good Buy?
Considering buying a 1980 300SD w/ 173K, sounds like in good condition but not pristine, asking $3300. Does this sound reasonable? Anybody have any issues or problem areas with these cars? It looks like lots of people love them but havent read too many that have a 1980. Thanks

$3300 sounds steep for a 1980 vehicle that's not mint.
Properly maintained, the engines are bulletproof but look very, very closely for rust in these models (W116).

I was in your position (considering the purchase of an 80SD, sevreral actually) back in 96. After looking at several, I decided to change my focus to 82-85SD. I always loved the look of the 116 body, but....They were all fairly rusty, even "good ones" -and this was 8 years ago. The 126 body has nice sunroof, power seats, better cold starting system, a Delco A/C compressor, etc. etc. Glad I did.

Owning two of these cars, a 80 and 79. I agree with RLeo, the car would need to be mint. No rust, which is rare with a 116, and a work ACC (servo). With R12 and the recirculate mod, you should see 40 F vent temps. For that money the car should be real nice!
