Speaking of James Bond's Mercedes....
In the "earliest memory" thread, I remembered a 007 Mercedes, but can't for the life of me remember which one or what movie.
I think it was a early 60's vintage... Anyone know?

I only remember seeing some in some of the chase scenes.
I never recall James Bond ever driving one.

Only James Bond Mercedes I remember was the 280 gasser 123 that Roger Moore kicked off the cliff in "For Your Eyes Only"
On the plus side you could still tell it was an MB after it fell a few hundred feet to the surf below.

I saw
I saw a website just looking for this info where it says in 1983's "Octopussy" he drives a Mercedes. I don't remember that one although I'm sure I've seen it.
Also in "Goldfinger" I remember that Bond was chased around some kind of factory by some Asian guys that were driving in a few MB's. I think it's the one where he fights that big strong Asian guy with the blade on his hat. I think that guy's Korean and they're all Korean probably. I don't remember what kind but they were some '60's models probably since I looked it up and the movie was made in 1964.

In octopussy, he drives a russian officer's MB on train tracks (after the tires are shot out. As I recall, the car is a 108.
Also, in Goldfinger, Auric Goldfinger's staff uses old MB's to chase the DB5. In On her Magesty's Secret Service, he is chased by, what I believe are 108's. In Fory your eyes only, he kicks a 116 and there is a 450SEL in the begining of the movie.

"The Ultimate Driving Machine," and such.
What I consider pretty neat is that a 20 year old design can keep up with a brand new Bimmer 750iL. Just watch Tomorrow Never Dies, and you'll see a couple W126 tail Bond's brand new Q-Ship Bimmer around haripin parking garage corners and tight spaces at fast velocities. This movie was released 7 years after the production of the W126 ceased, and the W220 was already out in the streets of Europe. Ha ha ha ha!

Towards the end of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, there's a drive-by shooting with Blofeld (Telly Savalas) at the helm of a (green?) 600 while his accomplice (Bunt?) shoots and kills Mrs. Tracy Bond (Diana Rigg) as the newlyweds make out in the Aston Martin.

...and there were a couple in the novels...
In Ian Fleming's "Moonraker" the evil Sir Hugo Drax drives a 300 Roadster in a memorable chase scene which ends with the demise of Bond's '30s Bentley tourer.
In the '50s and '60s when Fleming was writing, Mercedes were rarely seen in England (or elsewhere). |
