300D turbo conversion?????

i was looking at my haynes repair manual and it struck me that they often talk about the turbo version of my engine interchangably with my 300D's engine......... this got me thinking. What are the differences....... and if they are few and far between then what would a 300D-300TD conversion entail???? I am really honestly just curious....... I'm happy with my 300D as is BUT at the same time I'm a tinkerer who likes to know exactly how things work (many times however I have no idea).

There is a sh'load of information on this topic already. You can find it easily by using the search function.

The turbocharged version of the 617 engine is very different from the naturally aspirated version. At the top of the list of differences are the oil squirters that spray oil on the underside of the pistons on the turbocharged engine. This is essential since the high boost pressure (high temperature air) and increased amount of fuel add a lot of heat to the cylinders and pistons. Without the squirters, you can easily melt your pistons.

Basically, if you want a 300D Turbo, you should buy one, since it would be less expensive and less time consuming to buy a car that was built with a turbo from the factory. Also, there are plenty of people who would be willing to buy your naturally aspirated classic diesel.

That would be quite a trick. 300D is a sedan and 300TD is a station wagon. (T means wagon, not turbo).
