Front End Rebuilt

Is it worth the hassle to buy the tie rod ends and replace them, or spend a couple more bucks, not really that much more, and buy the whole tie rod ?

I checked the prices and the center and 2 sides costs about $120 (complete) . Buying the individual pieces may save u about $10 - $15. This would mean knocking out the old and putting in the new and not having to worry about getting one end off.

As for the LCA, I would have to say that replacing just the bushings is alot cheaper.

What do u guys think?

Front End Rebuild

I just had my front end on my 300SD rebuilt. I used new tie rod sections. They cost a few dollars more but in the long run they are worth it.

You also want to make sure that your steering damper is replaced. It pretty inexpensive, maybe $30 or so.

Whole thing is easiest for sure.

When I did mine, I got the whole thing(s). A new damper is a must do while you‘re there. Also - A rebuild of the idler is easy while you‘re there as well.
I laid the old shafts on a board and marked there length center to center of the pins as best I could. Set the new ones as close to that as I could. When I took it in to check the alignment it drove straight as an arrow. One side was dead on, the other off a degree or two. The whole job took maybe two hours.
