auto to manual 240D conversion?
 

I have read about 300D auto to manual conversions, but I wasn't able to locate any info about the same in a 240D. My guess is that it should be just as "simple" if not even more of a straightfoward swap...

any ideas or experience?

Should be easier since the stock transmission mount and driveshaft are readily available from a 240D.

That would be the easiest "conversion" you will ever do. Just unbolt manual parts and bolt to auto car (will need the driveshaft and all manual related parts.) Hooking up a clutch safety switch will have the same issues as the 300D auto to man'l convert, but no driveline shortening, shift rod bending, etc.

What exactly does that switch DO ?

Just uses the auto tranny wiring to wire-in a switch that is NO with the clutch at rest (so you must push in the clutch to start.)

These are installed in the man'l tranny cars and will come with a pedal assy, the wiring is easy to splice to the auto trans neutral safety switch wiring.

Well,,,, I don't know about that...
I have decided that the switch is for turning off the speed control.
This after Rick keeps telling me that is what it is for...and me telling him that the wiring diagram for the speed control does NOT GO THERE... it goes to the brake switch light circuit.
But when thinking about it... I think it is connected to the clutch pedal to keep from overspeeding the engine by disconnecting the speed control when the load is removed from the engine.
I had gone out and tried to start my car ... will start in neutral and in ANY GEAR with me standing outside the car turning the key... Don't try that at home.... or at least not with the car Pointed at your home....

That's probably just what it's for on the 240, makes since (I don't have a running 240 to test it on.)

Most cars use a clutch safety switch, not allowing the starter to engage unless the clutch is in so that's how I hooked up the auto trans neutral safety switch wiring (to the NO switch at the clutch pedal) on my conversion.
