Euro SD, 1982
I bought the 82 SD and, while running the VIN for touch up paint, dlr. told me it's Euro car. Prior owner took euro delivery, so it make sense.
It seems faster than by other SD's, are the power specs the same or does it have a few more ponies? |
I've never heard of a Euro SD. If the dealer says so, then it must be. I want to see pics of this.

My 81 SD was a US-spec car with Euro delivery. Not a darn thing about it was Euro except that the book was stamped by a few Euro dealerships and the service phone number in the glove box lid wasn't a US phone number.
Are you saying that the door and engine bay tags don't have DOT markings? Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |
don't really know enough with our mb's yet but, with my years with the same age audi's, the only two differences where compression, and gearing. the us version was 8.5.1/ eur 10.1
and the eur had a varible speed trans-axle. it maybe the same with our mb's.... but not sure. |
I'll advise when I talk to MB again. I thought Euro spec cars started with something other than wcbd or whatever in the VIN

how does one tell if the car is a euro, my present car was picked up in germany by the PO, I have all of the documentation to that effect. Even has the little emblem on the grill.

Since 1980 or 81 US spec cars have a distinct VIN format and the MB US EPC recognizes only US MB VINs. I don't know if this continues to be true. That's the most sure way to find out short of a statement from MB. There are lots of tell-tales like bumpers, exterior lights, upholstery, options, but nothing that can't be refitted with enough time and money. Not to mention models that were not offered in the US.

Like; a realy fast 560SE with cloth and manual climate control?
(wouldn't that be a find) I didn't think they put the diesel in the S-class body in Europe? At least in the 80's. |
Never heard of a Euro SD . My 86 Euro 500 SE has
Euro bumpers, controls labeled in German, adjuster on dash for headlights, outside temp in C,Vin WDB126 ,and is geared very high. You will know it's a Euro car when your insurance co. runs it's vin and tell you it's a "non car"......... William Rogers......... |
