Well, after fears of vengeful tenants having put sugar in the tank of my friends 91 300D 2.5 Turbo, we have actually determined the actual cause of death: broken oil pump chain. (Man, that oil pump gear is tiny and that chain is small too.) So things look pretty bad at the moment. Now we must decide if we should go for a full rebuild, buy a 'new' motor, or scrap the poor girl. Most likely the former, but we will have to see how the teardown continues (ie: can we get the pistons out...
![]() Really quite sad, as she had less than 188k mi on her.... Rest of the car is gorgeous too....(I want to drop in a SL600 motor I saw on ebay, but my friend thinks that that is quite insane.) So is this a common ailment on the 2.5T or is this a rare case?!Is there a class action lawsuit I can Join!? ![]() -Matt- Guess what is missing:
