I saw the old TV series "Simon & Simon" yesterday, and there was a W126 in it, I'm presuming it was a 300SD, since the majority of U.S. W126s were SDs in 1982, it looked too modern and out of place with all of those 1977 Plymouth Gran Fury police cars and all those other mid-late 70's big floaty American cars around it. And on today's episode, there was a 1980 or 1981 yellowish 300D being valet parked by "A.J." in the beginning of the episode.

Let's not forget that J.R.'s wife Sue Ellen drove a 300 TD in "Dallas". Larry

I was watching "Scarface" today, and there is a W116 300SD in it. I could see the two rear badges on the trunk in one scene, when Scarface is looking through the security camera, and the 116 and a cable van is in the picture, and Scarface is talking about something like taking three days to rig a cable is too long.

House of Sand and Fog

In the House of Sand and Fog, the antagonist, an Iranian workaholic who buys the house a a tax sale, drives an elderly Mercedes, I think a W116. Some of his Iranian friends also drive up in Mercedeses, I think.

"Tomorrow Never Dies"

In this bond movie the villans drive up to bonds beamer or whatever it was as he was supposed to be assisinated in the motel room. They drive up to his well protected car in a diesel powered w126...black...you can hear it clatter.

Its midway though the film, just look for the gunman and the cool remote controlled car chase scene...then just rewind a little

I forget the movie, but it took place in NYC and it featured Bruce Willis where he was a cop or something, and he was driving a Smoke Silver 1986-88 420SEL that he hi-jacked from a passerby. He drove the heck out of it, shot it up and rolled it. When I was in LA, I would see lots of "MOVIE" cars that had been used in wreck scenes, was wild to see them all wired for blasting caps or something to blow holes in the body and simulate being shot up.

I had picked up on that too and you're close, it was actually a 108/109.

The Bruce Willis movie was "Die Hard with a Vengance"

Theres a Bacardi(?) commercial out now and right at the beginning of it theres a 123 you can see under an arched driveway entrance to a fancy house.

Dont forget the 240DL in one of the Godfather movies

That was a w116 450SEL 6.9, with a 6.9 liter V8.
Ronin has great chase scenes. That 450SEL was getting it. The w116 300SD that I gave to Bonehead was the same color as the one in the movie. I got a kick out of seeing the movie w116 smoke the tires. Safe to say I wasn't going to be doing that in the SD.

They did some nice driving in that Audi as well.

Ronin is one of the best car movies I've seen.

The trouble with Diesels in action flicks

Most of us know that it is really hard to get them to burn. Explosions are unheard of.

On the other hand, every time Chuck Norris got out of any vehicle, it exploded.

Not even gas vehicles explode readily.

Of course, none of this will stop Hollywood. The legend in Hollywood is that cars blow up pretty much all the time. It is like every woman in the village an Indian Bollywood movie dresses alike, and their boyfriends also dress alike.

The public demands explosions. So things blow up.

In Hotel Rwanda the family has a toyota van, and an 80's 300TD wagon, you get a small glimpse of it as they go into their compound at their house. This is filmed in Africa.......and its a true story and incredible in its portrayal, while also horrifying to see what went on and goes on over there. I recommend it.

Recent news coverage of the Pope

Recent news coverage of the Pope's death showed that the Pope Mobile was indeed a Mercedes van/truck chasis.

Gus Van Sant's 'Elephant' features a nice white diesel W123 (240D or 300D... I can't remember) in the opening scene.
