I'd buy one if I could find one

I've been thinking about how much I've been spending on gas recently, and it aint pretty. $160-200 per month is my rough estimate. At those prices, I could "afford" to buy a second car and pay license and insurence if it made good enough milage. So I guess what I'm hoping, or maybe more praying for, is a a 70's 200, 220, or 240D with a manual in roadworth condition. Nothing else would matter, if it were in one piece, the doors and windows kept the elements out, and I could get it started in the morning and drive it down the road without worrying about the wheels falling off, I'd buy it. It's not that it's impossible to get better than 18mpg out of my Fairlane, it's just that without overdrive you're turning 306ci at 3000 going down the interstate even with a 2.8 ratio rear (which also eats into the performance, seems without OD you're stuck with an unpleasant compromise). Overdrive means a 5-speed, which means time and money I don't have right now (more money than time, of course).
I did see something like what I'm looking for in the paper a couple weeks back, but neglected to call; I'll have to dig that back up. So, am I asking for a miracle, or is this doable?

Something like this, but I'm hoping for even cheaper.
