can i install a 1799 300d engine into a 1984 300td benz?

They say anything is posible. I think you would do better with something built in the 20th century though.

1899 is the oldest you can go. Unless the car was built before 1900.

BTW if you can find one as new as 1975, they will bolt in the same place as the 617.952 motor placed in a 1984. But 1977 or newer modles will have a better oil filter location.

Lots of nasty little problems though. Only engines originally in US station wagons will have the drive necessary through the head to power the load leveling hydraulic pump. Only original turbo motors will do well with the turbo, 300D motors before 1982 will not have turbos.

One of the nastiest difficulties come from motors made before 1979 with York AC compressors. The early blocks won't accept the mounting of the much better R4 AC compressor.
