auto trans leak

Hi. I transplanted the 5 cyl diesel and auto trans from a 78 300D into a 78 240D. Used the 300's driveshaft too. The rear seal of the trans leaks. I replaced the seal but it still leaks and it's getting worse.Any ideas? Thanks.

What brand seal did you use?

Was it leaking before you changed which car it was in ?

Did you have to modify the driveshaft ?

Did you examine the surface upon which the seal is in contact ?

Did you replace the seal as you did the transfer or did it leak and you have taken the driveshaft out once and replaced the seal ?

Is the seal leaking at the driveshaft surface or around the outside where it fits to the trans case ?

I don't remember where I bought the seal. I didn't have to modify the driveshaft. Not sure if it was leaking in the other car as it was wrecked. I saw the engine running for a second but wasn't able to put it in gear. I simply bolted everything into place. It started leaking from the beginning. Wasn't horrible but I bought a new seal and replaced it. I recall having to pull the crossmember to see exactly where it was coming from. The surface of the tailshaft appeared ok while installing the new seal but it started leaking again right away and has gotten gradually worse. Haven't gotten back under to see if it's leaking at the center of the seal where the driveshaft enters or at the bottom of the seal ( like it's not seated well). Just wondering if anyone had a similar experience or ideas. Thanks again.

I bought a Honda motorcycle which had a leak at the primary sprocket. I carefully took the seal out and went and got an exact replacement... It leaked also.... then I went and got a new seal from Honda and found out that I had exactly replaced a wrong size seal installed by the previous owner... the difference was like between 54 mm and 55...
Strange things happen with machines....
