Easier to Remember URL for DIY Pages?!?
I've been thinking with the amount of traffic the DIY page has been receiving that perhaps it'd be worthwhile to buy a URL for it rather than using the tediously long subdomain it has now. It doesn't really matter to me what it is but I think it is easiest to end with .com as the whole .org, .net, .usa, ... thing gets old quick when searching for the right site. Any comments or suggestions?
www.w123repair.com?

That would be an EXCELLENT name, easy to remember, to the point, etc.
One thing, you're not charging to use this site, and that's great (unlike the other person who decided to make his a paid site), but maybe let the members here donate (voluntarily) some $'s via paypal or something like that to cover the cost of hosting it and domain reg. I'll kick in $5 (at least).

I like the proposed w123repair url.
When I read about the voluntary contribution, I was immediately reminded of the setup that "spybot search&destroy" uses. They do not charge for their software, but give you the option to "donate" via paypal - not just at their homepage, but also on the main control panel window itself. (just an image of a few coins) I just downloaded the software a day ago, but have already found it worthy of donation. I bet he gets more $ out of his efforts through the indirect route, than he would using a more direct route to obtain funds. Might want to secure a w124repair and a w126 repair too Oh, and personally, I wouldn't object to a w108repair either Have fun! -Larry

I run an Isuzu site very much like that. http://www.planetisuzoo.com if you are interested. Anyway, I use Amazon's donation system. It's very easy, and as an added bonus to the person who donates, there is a 30 day refund period if they change their mind. (I have yet to have anyone change their mind).
BTW, I'll be one of the first to "donate." I don't own a diesel, but I'm working on my sister's and the info has been extremely helpful. -Tad '95 C280 (do ya think an om617 will fit?) |

I concur. Although perhaps if you were planning on expanding to more than the 123's www.mercedesrepair.com might be a better idea.
Of course then your sort of setting yourself up I think . I'd also be one of the first in line with a donation. So regardless.. I think you should put a donate link up there.

I also paid a donation to spybot and others, but have no paid subscriptions to any website.
If you go about it correctly, buying the domain is so cheap that there is no reason not to do it. Be careful that with some hosting companies, they register the domain in their name and lease it to you. |

Yes the thing about the W123repair would be it implies only for W123s so if I ever expanded I'd end up having to get W126repair, W124repair, .... The whole thing is I don't know if I'll ever get a W126 or W124 though, I'm tempted to get a CTD for my next vehicle. I would most likely keep the W123 though.
DieselMercedes.com has already been registered. Quote:
I just checked with my web hosting provider and they won't support multiple domains in my package. How about: http://w123repair.1baddsm.com I can do that (or any other subdomain of 1baddsm.com) for free, and immediately. Still a bit long but I guess it is a little better.

Yea, all of the other extensions were available. None the less my web hoster doesn't want more than 1 domain so unless I upgrade to the package that costs 5X as much I can only host one domain, 1baddsm.com.
