If I pump my brakes 3 or so times, the pedal gets very stiff

I assume it is a vacuum leak somewhere, or could this be a bad booster? If the car has been off for awhile, when I get in the car, the pedal is stiff, so it's leaking down somewhere. How do I test my booster and vacuum pump? All I have is the big vacuum line coming out of my v. pump that goes to the booster I believe. It's not like the 123's and 126's that have the smaller line coming off the larger one. Is there a place where I can get a fitting to adapt to my hand pump to check it? Am I going about this all wrong? Please give me direction.
Thanks
David

at idle?

I'd say that this is not too far from the norm (at least on my cars) if you are talking about sitting at idle and pumping on the brakes.
The vacuum pump is sucking air but at idle not that much. Leaks will exacerbate the problem but I don't think you are necessarily in that bad of shape to get too conerned.

On the other hand if the car starts shutting off real slow then you better start looking...

One way to test is to just start pulling and plugging lines one at a time until you can pump them more often and the vacuum stays up. Work from the vacuum line furthest away from teh vac pump so you isloate the bad one and remember it may be more than one leak in more than one line...
