Filter Changing Interval
What should be a good interval for the following?
Power Steering fluid and filter Transmission fluid and filter Fuel filter (the big one, little one i usually change when dirty) Air filter. Planning a roadtrip in the W124 (don't know why i can't take the W126 instead ), and oil + trans has been changed 3 weeks ago, just wondeing if anything else should be done before I take the trip.

Fluids and Filters are cheap compared to having to be towed or doing some repair away from home and paying someone else to do it just because you don't have your tools handy....
So I say once a year on the fluids and filters.... Doing it yourself before a big trip is good because you may see something else under the hood which needs changing... How about your brake fluid ? |

Fuel Filters, air filter and brake fluid should be changed once per year like Greg says unless you log lots of miles. If you do, then change them every 25,000 miles, and flush brake fluid annually.
100,000 miles would be good interval for p/s fluid and filter. I stay as far away from automatic transmissions as I possibly can, so I'll let others comment on that one, but when you change it, drain transmission AND torque converter. Good luck, |

Whoops, forgot about brake fluid, ah, we drive Mercedes' who uses them anyway . But, thanks alot for the schedule. Although what would be the limit for "lots of miles"?? My commute every other day is about 40-50 miles round trip. Also someone has mentioned to change the big fuel filter every 6,000 miles and the air filter every 10,000. Anybody have a guide to changing power steering fluid and bleeding the brake fluid?
On a sidenote, every now and then when i take a right turn a little fast, my coolant light would come on. Does this mean I have low coolant (which seems fine) or is the sensor going bad?

Change the "pre-filter" when you see dirt, they are cheap and easy to replace, change the main fuel filter once a year or when you feel you lose power, every 6000 miles is a little excessive (maybe he was talking about the oil filter, every 3000 miles).

large fuel filter-
why not change it when it won't pass fuel any more? one member on this site has said the filter actually improves efficiency gradually as it traps dirt until one day it won't pass fuel through. i have gone at least 50k mi. before replacing that filter, and even then it was not obviously needed. i keep a spare in the car in case i get a load of bad fuel on a road trip and need to change it out forthwith.

Brake fluid once per year. That is because it is always trying to absorb moisture....
