'85 300D 722.416 Slow Engagement

My car takes about 5 seconds to engage drive or reverse, and when it engages you cannot tell (no thud). All shifts are soft (mild flairing). I purchased the Sonnax 'Solenoid pressure regulator valve spring'...could not locate the spring according to their instructins. I removed the valve body and checked all pistons and springs. They all looked ok (no broken ones) None resembled the Sonnax spring. I think their spring fits some other model tranny, not this one!

I assume my problem is low pressure (although it has not been measured), and am trying to figure out what else may be causing it. Perhaps the pump itself. What I've identified to be the pressure contol valves in the valve body appear ok.

Would a bad or misadjusted modulator valve cause my symptoms?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
