Anyone know what's wrong w/ mbz.org mailing lists?

It looks like www.mbz.org and it's mailing lists are down. I know many list members also post here. Anyone have any insight into what's wrong?

be sure you are in good standing.
I have had them block my IP address and could get on the site.

Hrm. I certainly haven't done anything to get bounced. Has anyone made it on to the site, or gotten a message, within the last 3 days or so?

The Diesel-tech, Diesel and 124 lists are all down--my inbox has been too damn quiet over the last few days. I feel like a Borg that's been cut off from its network.

Yeah, when you get used to 50 -200 messages a day its quite a shock quitting cold turkey. I've burned up almost as much timing checking my mail to see if the site's up as I would have to read the messages.. .

Rusty doesn't run the mbz.org site. He helps support it. I'll email Richard and find out whats up.

why?

what advantage is the MB mail list over this bulletin board? Mail list is such an archaic way to do things. That does not make it bad but...???

I cant see any advantage at all. Many of the same members on the list as to whom are here. Just as much tech. Just as much fun, much easier to read/respond on bulletin board than mail list. No email program limitations too.

Oh well to each his own.

...actually, I think each compliments the other rather nicely. I value both as treasured resources.

I haven't gotten any messages from diesel, dieseltech, or 116 (not like that is abnormal though...) for the entire weekend. I can access ***************, mbz.org, but when I go to connect to the mail-list link (lists.mbz.org) I get a timeout.

Hopefully they are progressing and we'll have both of our addictions running strong soon

Heh, call me old-fashioned, but I think web bulletin boards are a big step backwards from mailing lists and Usenet...

Anyway, I also haven't got any messages since digest #2211. Glad to see it's not something I did.

Reply from Richard (mbz.org):

It's down. It'll ba back as soon as I can get it fixed. It's complicated.

The website(s) are up, but the machine that processes the mailing list is rather badly hosed and it's a very old BSD system and there are "issues" reading the old drives on anything else.

It's a day away from being done from when anybody asks; Hopefully tonight but of course I said that last night.

I'm building another server to handle the mailing list traffic
(non-trivial in quantity, I do more than Mercedes lists here)
and it may work out that that machine is up before we
fix/upgrade the old one.

"soon" is the best I can do. I don't actually know when it'll
be back up; I have loaded all the subscription lists and junk
on another of my servers and that may in fact come up tonight.
Or not. But it'll be soon. I'm jonsing as bad as anybody else,
rest assured.

Richard
