240D - manual tranny availability
I'm a complete newbie to this forum and to mercedes so bear with me or delete. My dad flew to Frankfurt in 1980 and bought a bare bones new 240d and drove it for a little bit and had it shipped back to USA.....its got a manual transmission and I'm wondering if that common or not?? I pester him on occaision to sell it to me. he says. " when I bought it in germany in 1980 I said it was the last car I wuill buy." He maintains that stance and for good reason. The thing looks new, has prolly less than 100Kmiles....I have a 2001 VW golf TDI which is great but I'd like something a little bigger and slower....Rob M Concord, MA USA

Don't know how common, but they were available in the U.S. and several members of this board have one, myself included. They are sought after by the "Keep It Simple, Stupid" crowd.

Rick , since you are afraid to take your head off to fix your blown head gasket why don't you sell him your transmission ?

I don't have time to pull it from under the car. Maybe next year. When my boat floor is done, and my guesthouse is open, then Leaky's head is coming off.
