I have the same question. I'm taking my son down to college in Tampa the week of Aug. 16-20 and would like to scour a local junk yard which might have Mercedes in them. Looking for parts for an 82 300SD and an 87 300SDL (tougher). My dad mentioned Kofer's U-Pull and we were planning to look them up. But are there are any others that people can recommend? Thanks!

I've been to Copher Bros. U-pull-it (Bradenton). It costs a buck to get in and look around. Last time I was there, all I saw was a W210 and W123. Both picked over pretty good. (I was there a month ago..I am sure inventory changes fairly regularly.

I have had better luck in south Sarasota at the yard that is part of Gluecks. I think its called "Al's U-pull-it". There they had a W126 a W115/8 a W123 and 2 W108's.

Hope this helps...

A phone number for Copher brothers won't help you because they don't keep track of their inventory. If you want directions, I can post them or get you the address. But wouldn't recommend that you drive all the way over here because they don't have much. I've been there probably a dozen times and never seen a W126. A better bet is Potomac German Auto. They have a yard over on the east coast, which is closer to Disney, and they're Mercedes specialists.

Rick,

Thanks for the tip on Copher's. It sounds as if I'm better off looking around here. I've had some luck at a couple of the yards here in the Baltimore/DC area. We also have a Potomac German Auto, but I like the u-pull-its because they're just so darned cheap if they have the part. I pulled a complete evaporator housing, with blower, evaporator, heater, flaps, everything for $80. It was $2-300 at Potomac German. I find it's just kind of fun to look around.

tstarr, Copher Brothers is fine if you just want to poke around and you'll be in Tampa anyway. But definitely not worth the drive from Orlando for whunter who is looking for a specific part.

Sorry to go off topic, but may ask where the u-pull-its in the B-more/DC area are? Thanks

SSharma,

The 2 that I've been going to have been Crazy Ray's, one in Savage, MD and the other up in Baltimore. As with most of these places, the stock varies. The last time I went to Savage there were no MBs of the 80s vintage. Other times, there have been 3 or 4. So, it depends.

Rick,

You would have much better luck at Al's than at Cophers. Copher's is good for domestic stuff, it is at Al's that I have the best luck. They are just south of the old Sarasota Square Mall (now called Westfield Mall or something generic like that) I'll probably be going this Saturday, if you want me to spy something specific, let me know.
