Location of air-recirc vale?
Can someone give tell me exactly where the ARV is? Also, I seem to remember it being mentioned that this can be a good thing to disable.
I'm also wondering if a hose related to the ARV is the source of a turbo related whistle I have. Comments?

The ARV is built into the compressor housing in Garrett turbos. No idea about KKKs. I don't see how the ARV can cause a whistle sound unless the housing was physically damaged. Abnormally loud whistling is usually caused by a boost leak.
You should get some performance benefit from disabling the ARV. There's no reason to keep it active since it's primary purpose is to get the trap oxidizer to operating temperature quickly. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

Sixto,
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the 617 does not have an ARV valve. |

No....not talking about the EGR. sixto: It is a Garrett turbo. Not positive about the ARV causing the whistle. Are you implying that only Ca. models with the trap oxidizer have the ARV? Brian: No idea. This is what I'm trying to find out. If I have one, where is it and should I disable it. Chris '85 300SD |

Chris,
I am almost positive that you do not have it. I do not have it on the SD. |

My boss's 85' 300TD has an ARV (CA. emissions w/trap ox.) It's not a garrett, it's got an "Air Research" turbo.
I have an '83 300SD turbo (KKK) and it has no ARV. Just a normal turbo. |

AirResearch is part of the Garrett name.
I don't know if all 85s have ARVs but California ones do. There should be two lines to the turbo. One goes to the wastegate acuator which is a canister on a bracket that's attached to the compressor housing with a rod that extends to the turbine housing. The other goes seemingly into the compressor housing. The latter is the ARV line connecting to the ARV. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |
