My cross country photos are up!
The past few days I've been working on putting photos together from the trip. There are approximately 450 thumbnailed photos on 17 pages. Let me know what you think!

That's one way of doing it. This was my first but certainly not my last cross-country trip.
Edit: oh well I guess you deleted your post |

WOW, what a trip!
Hey Turbodiesel,
What a trip!! Hope you had a great time. Only question is would you have done it in the 300SDL if you still owned it?

Looked like a great trip.....Too bad you didn't do a slight detour into Austin Texas from Houston, then headed north out of here.
Oh well...missed a great place! Thanks for sharing...but seriously, no Benz photos?

It's funny but between New Jersey and California we saw MAYBE 5 mercedes on the road. I was amazed how few there were between the coasts. California has some pristine older diesels on the road.
Last year I had planned to take the 300SDL but I was concered about it making it through the scorching temperatures of the south west. If it was in the fall I would have taken the 300SDL without a thought. |

Nice pictures...
I see you passed through George, Wa. There are many neat side roads you could have taken and seen some awsome scenery, one of the roads takes you to an ancient waterfalls carved out by one of the many ice aged floods... |

Comments on the New Orleans Portion of your trip
I really enjoyed the photos of your trip. As a New Orleans natice, I;d like to point out a couple of interesting details:
1. The "Huge Swamp Bridge"in this pic <http://207.44.234.41/xc/IMG_8426.JPG> is actually I-10 crossing over Lake Ponchartain. Nearby is the Cauesway Brigde over the Lake, which is the longest bridge in the world (some 24 miles in total). 2. The next pic "Power lines going into the ocean" is actually not the ocean, but Lake Ponchatrain - a 603 sq. mile body of water. Pretty cool city - New Orleans. Did you enjoy your stay?

The interesting sign you saw in Hinton, Oklahoma is in reference to the Great Plains Correctional Facility, a "private" prison. There used to be some signs around El Reno, Oklahoma's federal prison, too.
The leaning water tower is a gimmick. When I-40 replaced U.S. 66, a lot of those podunk towns were bypassed and the leaning water tower was set up to entice motorists off of the interstate. I'm surprised you didn't check out the Cadillac Ranch when you went through Amarillo (south side of the interstate on the west side of town).

Yes I really enjoyed my stay there.
I know It wasn't an ocean but for the life of me I couldn't remember how to spell that lake when I was putting the page together.. haha. |

You drove all that damned way and some of the most fun you had was......DRIVING a go cart???? Sick, sick, sick.
The planes you saw in Wyoming belong to an aerial spraying/firefighting service. They've been known to have some interesting WWII-vintage birds in their fleet. Most are ragged as all get out, but pretty neat nonetheless.
