My dad's new 300D...... what do I do first to it ?
Please guide me through this. This car has nothing wrong with it and we just bought it. I will be picking the car up on monday. The chevy dealership will be doing the oil change prior to me picking the car up.
I, nor my father have ever owned a Turbo Diesel. I do have a 240D so I'm pretty familiar with Diesel. He picked up the car for 6,300 from the Chevy Dealer since it was traded in the day before. 1992---121,000 miles on it My question is: What do I need to do to the car ? What kind of tune up ? The car does have 121,000 miles on it.... Thank You http://images.autotrader.com/images/..._A.562x421.jpg http://images.autotrader.com/images/..._A.562x421.jpg |
Hi kamil, there's nothing wrong, the steelerdealer is changing the oil for ya, first thing I do is go cruz'n for a day or two.:D
for the most part, keep up the maint., on it. good oil, and change oil every 3k miles... turbo's don't care for dirty oil. enjoy the ride ! one thing that bothers me is, why is the dealer changing the oil? In my travels, once the sell is made, the dealer can't collect your money fast enough, then wave at ya, cause they can't get ya off there lot fast enough... it just makes me wonder ya know. good lookin car tho. |
fuel filters, air filters, and maybe diesel purge? if it hasn't for a while u might want to adjust the valves too, although i am not sure if the w124 needs valve adjustment like w123, and w126's

I've bought many cars and I have always requested oil changes prior to me picking them up. I always check the oil as well to make sure..... |
Valves in these cars are hydraulic and need no adjustments!
Buy some new euro headlights! |
Unless you have records showing its been done recently I would.
a) flush the radiator. b) flush the brake lines c) change ATF/filter d) change differential fluid e) change the air in the tires ;) Seriously though I'd certainly consider a thru d. |
Go South on the Garden State Parkway to the shore on a busy weekend. If it doesn't overheat in the bumper to bumper traffic for 5 hours, you know it's in good shape.;)
Nice car. Good luck |
we didn't overpay did we ?
|
To late to worry about that now.
I've seen some for more/less. It all depends on the condition of the car. Anyservice records to speak of? |
My concern would be the oil filter a Chevy dealer would put in a 602. I'd rather have dirty oil for 50 miles than a Fram filter for 1 mile. Not to mention the propensity of the common oil changer to fill the engine to the upper mark of the dipstick which can cause consumption problems on MBs.

I wonder if they will even use the right oil? 10w-30 I bet gets put in. I would change the oil as soon as I got home.
|
Damn, I hope they don't put 10w30 in there.....

Oops, sorry, I found it. I was scanning or $ signs. |
Money sounds OK.
For sure the wrong oil AND the wrong filter is going in the car. They'll be sure to use a local auto parts store domestic filter and the oil will not be diesel rated. Oil change is generally part of the "safety check" that they must perform to keep the attorneys away. See if you can get the records or at least the service booklet. |
no, you definately did NOT overpay, thats a good price.
