I need some guidance here...
I am still trying to get a definitve answer on whether or not I can swap the trans out of an '85 300SD into an '82 300SD.
Will the two trannies interchange? I have heard of "differences" between the two. Obviously the years are different but I need to know if they are a direct bolt up-hook up job? I haven't noticed any physical differences between the two. Are the so-called "differences" internal only but cause no problems if used with an "82 engine? Inquiring minds want to know... I've never tried it but I've heard that an 85 tranny will not physically bolt up to an 81-84 engine.

The bolt-up issue needs to be looked at, and also the physical length of the transmission needs to be about the same.
