100,000 mile service

Hello Everyone. I have a 1979 300CD. It has just over 100,000 miles on it. (that's right 100,000) I need to know what do I need to make sure is done. Also, what never to do. This is my first mv diesel and I am looking to owning it for a looong time. Do I need to change the timing chain at 100,000 miles? What is the break in mileage for the 123? I've heard it's 150,000 miles. I had the engine cleaned and now the cruise won't work. What could have caused this? This car is mint and I want to make sure it stays that way. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I run the best oil I can find then follow the adage: If it works, don't fix it -- and fix EVERYTHING that's broke. Good luck with your new/old car. Wow, a '79 with 100K. Amazing.

Thanks!

Thanks Dana B. I plan to keep it up to spec. That's why I'm getting ready to take her in for a 100,000 mi. service.

sounds a lot like my car............ mines not mint but I got a '78 with just around 72500 on it. There's little stuff wrong, but I'm always fixing stuff hoping to have something close to mint someday. I'm 18 and it's my first car so I hope it to last. I can't afford for it not to.

wholly molly!!

Now that's amazing. Tell me what you have been doing to get your car mint. I may be missing out on something. I bought my car from a man that was 86 years old. He bought the car for his wife when she was 62. They only drove the car around town to the tune of 4000 miles per year. I got the car in 2001 and it had 86000 miles on it. What's your story. 78000 miles is really unique!! At 18 years old you get to grow old with the car. Congratulations.

right now I have things such as fixing a sticky door lock. I have a couple very minor surface rust areas such as around the emblem on the trunk and at the bottom surface around the door. I've only had the car about 2 months but I'm in process of trying to replace all dry rotted hoses and things that leak. I have door seals that need replaced as they leak a little (only in automatic car washes). A few (as in like 3) minor snags in my vinyl seats to be repaired. I will pm you whenever I do something if you do the same. we gotta KEEP THEM ALIVE!

will do deferr. I will pm you results from my major upcoming service when I do it. Let's shoot for 500,000 miles!! The way I'm going that may be well into my retirement years as I only drive about 5,000 miles per year.

Hmph, I've been at almost a thousand miles a week the last month or so. My poor old blue girl..

Question while were on the topic, I have the FSM for w123's, but is there not a seperate book or some such I've seen somewhere that liste service intervals? Or have I overlooked it in my stack of manuals?
