How about the flashing tail light bulbs you can get for motorcycles?

I need a couple sockets to to that on mine........don't have any spares....need to see if they have them on fastlane.

For some reason I recall that that empty socket was for euro spec rear fog light. Can anyone correct me on this?

No they can't, because that's what it was there for. However it makes an excellent place for 2nd brake light.

Have done the extra brake lights mod on my w126 using the high watters on a normal two element tail light/flasher bulb.
Puts out some SERIOUS light to the back of the car...I just went to take some pictures...

Inbalance there on tail lights...I have a few really old bulbs that need to be replaced

EDIT: My licecene plate lights aren't working again...damn them...I need some dialectric grease

Well everything is recently washed (inside and out)...almost all good bulbs *shug*
I think the effective wattage out the back is somewhere around 40-50? I don't remember but I added it up once.
I like people to be able to see me stopping...and I will tell you what...those lights work GOOD when you are out on the road and you want to be seen.
Can light up stop signs and reflective stuff 6 blocks away
Now I just need better stuff pointing forward

Nice mod! Too bad it won't work on the TD

I am planning on adding an LED third brake light however, that TD just has too invisible of a rear...

Also... For motorcycles, a modulating headlight is PERFECTLY LEGAL. Some states have laws on the books, but for transportation related things, the federal law overrules, and it specifically allows modulating headlights. Now, it does stipulate when they can be used, and the exact nature of the modulation. Also, note that I'm not using the word 'strobe'. A strobe turns on and off, a modulation goes from dim to bright, in my bike's case, 17% to 100%. Also, instead of a high frequency flash, it is low frequency, about 240 beats per minute (4 per second). That frequency was chosen because it does NOT cause target fixation like a high frequency strobe.

Sorry, I know this isn't a bike forum, but just want to clear up some misconceptions about headlight modulators. I'm convinced that it makes me safer, and I've gotten flak from people about it before. Like they say, "Headlight modulators, despised by some, misunderstood by many, but seen by ALL."

Taillight modulators are also legal and popular. I've got one on my workbench right now that is half-assembled. When the brake light comes on, an auxiliary brake light flashes 5 times, and then goes solid. It isn't a continuous flash, rather, it emulates the 'tap your brakes a few times before stopping' technique. For motorcycles (and I think cars), a modulated auxiliary brake light is perfectly legal. You can't strobe or flash ALL your brake lights, just 'extra' brake lights. If you want to be sure, check with your local laws. However, don't just ask a cop, because they probably won't know, and will just tell you it is illegal, even if it isn't (like happens all the time with headlight modulators).

Peace,
Sam

I'll do this on my daughters car and will also add a 3rd light to the 240D and the wagon.

Scroll down a bit to see the third light.

I was in the 300SD the other day, and I was following my dad,. he was in the 300D, and it was about 9:00PM, and I have made no mods whatsoever to the brake lights in the 300D, and the original brakes lights nearly blinded me they're so bright! They definately got my attention. Imagine what would happen if I made the fog lights lenses extra brake lights. They'd stop for sure then. : Yes, they'd have to wear sunglasses at night while following me.
