Yes. But you really don't need that extra level of smoke control if you don't mind a little haze before the boost comes up... the MAP sensor will still keep things in check.

Like I said the way my MAF delete tune works is the "default" values the computer uses with the maf is busted / unplugged are set very high, so if you unplug the maf it thinks it has all the air in the world. With the MAF plugged in the system works normally.

Would you care to share the wire colors or pin # assignments where a guy could wire in a few diodes to eliminate the MAF?

Thanks!

Cheers,

Matt

Apparently the map curve is adequate for the computer through the maf wire and the egr mod is happy too.

I will report back after a couple of days with varied driving. It just may be licked!

Thanks for the documents Evan!
Can you share the details of this mod so we can try it too???

I will have to look what the exact pins are but if you do what I stated earlier in the thread by knowing what the maf wire is and looking at the output color of the map sensor and finding it at the computer you are good to go.

I will post the step by step when I get a chance.

Hi Mdisav,
I read what you posted earlier, but as I am no good at all in electronic, this is a total different language to me.
This is why a step by step would be great for me to start visualised what you are talking about.
Thank you.
all the best.

Apologises to all who read my last post ( the one with the copper wire, I delete it). It was not working after all. I went for a longer spin and holding the rev for a longer time over 3000, dead, no more boost...
as Mdsav said after awhile it will trigger codes. Sob...

Anyone making any gains on this? I was wondering if starting with the crankshaft position sensor would indicate intake air flow better than the MAP since it is not affected by the wastegate.

Thanks to Evan for the links to those sensors on Bosch Motorsports - if we knew the tolerance ranges of the ECU (rather than figuring it out with test drives) this would be a piece of cake!

I'm pretty sure the output of the MAF is 0-5v. My laptop program however, does not read the MAF for some reason (and it angers me... ). It reads the MAF on our Tundra just fine. If I could read the sensor, I could data log it.

Do we have any updates on this? My MAF is not great, I installed a foam/ oiled filter and after 1000 miles the MAF seems to be is gone south as if I floor the car it got hiccups like fuel starvation, I think the MAF doesn't register the amount of air properlly and as a result does not inject enough fuel in the pods

I have 10K miles without the MAF with the mod I mentioned earlier in this thread. If it does not make sense let me know and when I have a little more time I will create a step by step.

[QUOTE=mdisav;2322052]I do not think that program is available. I have asked Oliver at speedtuning and he said it is probably not possible.

Also I do not think our cars set codes without the cel.

I put a series of 5v zener diodes together from the 5volt signal from the maf to get roughly 2.5volts. It seems to idle without a code now. I will drive it and see if the coast is clear and if I get a code under any other driving conditions.
QUOTE]

Is this the MOD?
Sorry but it doesn't really make sense to me as I have no idea about electrionics at all
How did you put the diodes together and which wires are they connected to( like which is the 5 volts signal from the maf and how are the diodes attach to it?)
Thank you.
Just think that you need to explain this to a total illiterate on electronic. Even the EGR delete had to me made for me and explain step by step on how to connect it...

Another question, its my understanding that the MAF regulate the amount of fuel in the pods, if you have none, how does it know how much to deliver?

Thank you.

As luck would have it, my MAF crapped out a couple weeks ago with the resulting P0100 code. What I have observed is that the engine seems to depend on the MAF to know when to downshift as well as setting limits on how much fuel can be delivered at any given moment based on air flow.

My plan for now is to leave it alone and repair the sensor with a new insert from a VW.

That's rich All the VW guys used to use 606 mafs because they were cheaper then the $350 TDI one. FYI: If you're going to get a VW maf use one from a 2.0 gas engine, not a TDI. Given the same volume of airflow, the 606 MAF will report the most air, then the 2.0 gas MAF, then the TDI MAF.
