Following is one proposal. If you have any ideas feel free to contribute! Nothing is set in stone and it would be good to be flexible on dates due to winter weather patterns and travel distances. We are looking at organizing a drive for a weekend some time in January, which will allow time for the holidays to pass so that hopefully more people than less will be able to attend.

If you have any ideas, have a favorite drive you like to do in the Bay Area, restaurants, etc... post here and lets get the ball rolling.

As of today, Zack (Boardmonger), Nick (SirNik84), and myself are on board for this. JimB? Jeremey? Prez808?... there are lots of us out there so chime in!

Route Proposal 1. Point Reyes Natl. Seashore/Golden Gate
Map of general area: http://www.co.marin.ca.us/depts/IS/Main/CountyMap.jpg

Leg 1.

Meet at Marin County Civic Center, located on the eastern side of Highway 101 on San Pedro Road overlooking the highway.. you cant miss it! http://www.greatbuildings.com/buildings/Marin_Civic_Center.html
Head west on Sir Francis Drake blvd.
Right on Nicasio Valley Road.
Left on Point Reyes st. Road/D Street
Left on Highway 1, head south through the town of Pt. Reyes Station.
Right onto Sir Francis Drake blvd. heading northwest through the town of Inverness out to the Point Reyes Natl. Seashore.
Lets go to the lighthouse!
http://www.ptreyeslight.com/lthouse.html

Leg 2.
Return on Sir Francis Drake blv. to highway 1.
Right onto highway 1 headed south.
Right onto Olema Bolinas Road
Olema Bolinas road takes us straight into the heart of Bolinas, and to the doorstep of the Coast Cafe.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolinas,_California

Leg 3.

Return on Olema Bolinas Road to highway 1.
Right onto highway 1.
Highway 1 leads us through Stinson Beach, up and over the coastal range back to highway 101.
Take 101 south towards the Golden Gate Bridge/G.G. National recreation area... perhaps for photo ops etc... theres a spot under the n. side of the bridge with views of the city etc...

The Coast Cafe in Bolinas is about as nice and cozy as u can get on any coastal day... fireplace, light foods to rich delicious Steaks, beer, coffee etc.. all reasonably priced. www.bolinascafe.com

Nate,

Yes, wasn't the gtg in Sacramento great, we had a super time, but there simply wasn't enough time to meet, and talk to everyone, and really look at all the cars

That's a very appealing, scenic and very well thought out drive. You are obviously aware of the charm and beauty of West Marin County. (Most of it is pretty much the same as it was 60 years ago) Those roads make for a wonderful leisurely tour. (But I'd pay attention for bicyclists on the roads) Point Reyes Station and the National Seashore are especially delightful.

You need to share with everyone here the story of your UNBELIEVABLE exhaust system on the '84 300SD!! I've never imagined seeing anything like that. It's just awesome.

Put the car on up on the rack, take some pictures, and TELL THE STORY in a new diesel discussion post.

It's simply too awesome to keep it to yourself. You are TRULY a man with talents for this century.

Any time in January works for me on the Marin County drive guys, and the WC/Livermoore idea is cool too! Lets hear some more dates.

Thumbs up New to this forum

I live in West Oakland and would be like to get involved with gatherings like this. The picture of the line of cars was fantastic. Thanks to Sixto and Chuck for stearing me in the right direction.

Here are some pics from Heather Farms and the Cruise route that I've done many times with the other forum that I belong to:

Plenty of parking

Along the cruise route on Bear Creek Rd.

Always empty parking lot in Orinda.

Another part of Orinda:

This is not to take away from the idea of meeting in Marin. I'm always up for new places. If anything I hope we can do 2 Bay Area meets in the near future!

I agree, and thats what this thread is for! The more ideas the better. The more drives the better! I like your route pics Prez, looks like a nice part of the bay, and I like the line up shot on the side of the road. Nice. Reminds me of the areas surrounding the base and drive up to Mt. Diablo.

Sounds great

Hello all,
I could not make it to the Sacramento meet because I was in Chicago for work. This drive sounds great. I am in.

By the way, I finally painted my SD.

Anything in Marin or Sonoma sounds good to me. It would be nice to meet some other diesel heads. There are a lot of old MBs in my area but its hard to fine people that are hands on.

From the looks of the responces, sounds like there will be more 126s at this meet then at the last one. I'm looking forward to that!
