what to look for on 87 420SEL. Is this a good car?

i have the opportunity to purchase (at a very low price)an 87 420SEL in fair condition. I don't know its service history(yet) but it has been sitting outside for at least 4 months without moving. About a month ago, someone broke the front passenger window and the car has been rained in. Visually the car looks very good (considering what it's been exposed to). This is a divorce settlement so I should be able to get the car for about $5000. Before it was parked it sat in a garage where it was rarely driven (the car is sitting at the owner's house just up the street from me.) Is this too much money? Sorry for the long post. Thanks
