CD Service Manual

Recently purchased the 124 service CD. Is this all there is for $140.00, or is there some trick to getting full appreciation from the product? Could be my computer skills are lacking. I certainly hope so! Anybody have any experience with these CDs. Really, maybe I'm doing something wrong. Would appreciate any wisdom on this topic.
Thanks, Roscoe

Roscoe:
I have a full set of them, I refer to them often in attempting to help answer questions here.
I don't know how I can help, they are fairly complete. Let me know a question you'd like answered, a piece of tech data or a procedure, and I'll let you know the path I took to find the answer on the disc.

Same offer to you. Think of something you want to know (even if it's a job you don't really plan on doing). If you can't find it, or don't know how to begin looking for it, let me know, and if/when I find it, I'll let you know what path I took to find it. If it ain't there, I'll tell you that, too. Let me know what year/model it is as well.

Are Mercedes shop manuals in English available?

For just about any car I've ever had, I've spent the money and gotten the actual manufacturers service manuals. It's So much nicer having a manual that is for your exact car/model/year. I can't seem to locate these anywhere.

What site are you guys getting these Cd's from? I'd be interested in checking them out.

What I found helped me was the fact that I had the books for the 108 before the CD. By using the book, I learned the way MB laid out their manuals. Everything is grouped. The best way to learn how to navigate the CD is to just start poking around, kinda like flipping through a book.

One thing I did, especially since I don't do much with the CD-rom, I put shortcuts to the four manuals of the 126 CD on my desktop. That way I can launch right into the manual without going through the movies and whatnot. Only works if you leave the CD in the drive though (if putting the CD in, and auto start is turned on, you get the movie). The 108 CD, I don't mind the start-up - music and a slide show.

gilly, thank you for the offer. here goes. i want to disable the egr valve on my 86 300 sdl. would you kindly walk me through the proceedure of identifying the correct vacuum line to plug using the cd shop manual/search(?) function. realize this is non standard practice and as such would also appreciate your comments on my doing the deed described. thank you.

Well, I guess I'd recommend just plugging the line at the EGR valve, but to show you how to find the schematic for this system, here is a path to the diagram with a couple short cuts:
Disc 1 in the drive, you should get an autostart on the 126 discs.
The 3 pointed star come up off the grille, as soon at the 3 pointed star is as large as it will get, you can click directly on the star to go to the next screen (saves a few seconds anyways). Next you will get the agreement screen, need to click on "accept".
Next the video will start to play (lots of good footage there), you can click on "continue" right away to get to the screen where you pick your model and year. Click on your car (300SDL 86), it will ask for a confirmation on your car, click on "continue". Next you'll get the different areas of information, click on "engine manual".
On the next screen, click on "07.1 Diesel injection systems-turbodiesel engines". From there, over on the right side of the screen at the bottom of the box, hit the right arrow until you get to the last page, you want "500 Vacuum circuit diagrams-turbodiesel"

Well if you're into Ebay you could find them going up for auction all the time. Pretty cheap too, around $70.
