ATTN: Southern MI folks - Don't Deal with Orrin B Hayes!

I have tried to deal with them on several occasions, both their service guys and Parts guys are the "put you on hold forever and when we get back to you tell you just bring it in, cause we can't (won't) give you advice over the phone." types. Although, their bodyshop guys are ok.....

I deal with Gurley Leep Motor Werks In Mishawaka, IN. Very nice people.......

I usually do not bring my cars to the shop unless I absolutely have to since I do much of my maintenance. But b4 I decide to have anyone work on my cars, I try to research and even visit the shop first, talk to the service mgr and even a mechanic or two just to get a feel for their competence and willingness to share information. After all, I'm paying. Not willing to give tips or share info turns me off also.

So far, I have found the MB dealer in GR, Betten Imports very helpful, professional and courteous. I haven't had much done but I do contact them occasionally with repair questions and have gotten straight answers.

My advise - look b4 you leap.... ask questions, get to know the people who may be working on your MB.... establish relationship. Test them out with some simple work to see how they handle the whole process.....

Thumbs up Betten Imports

I worked for Betten Imports years ago as a VW tech & the Mercedes techs they have over there are top notch. Decades of experience and a willingness to work with any Benz you throw at them.

In my case, when I need to bring my MBs in for service I work with an outfit called Heritage Service Centre on Scribner (although I've got nothing but good things to say about Betten, I'm not really down with dealer rates and the general inability to work directly with the mechanic on issues). Jim, the chief mechanic (and part owner) of the shop got his start at German Auto down the street and has an excellent knowledge of old MBs. The other part owner, Tom, is the service writer up front & will be honest and up front with you, also providing good information to you if you're looking for some advice on your project. In fact, I bought Hilda from Tom and she's been a great driver.
