jkoebel - IF you really love it, don't want to take the loss and get the tranny issue resolved consider driving it to Seattle! I made the same move from Orlando to Seattle about 8 years ago and drove my 300E across the country. It's a fun and interesting road trip as long as you have someone else to do it with. Just putting another option out there.

It's got a great running engine, the transmission is probably just in need of an adjustment/new spring kit, the A/C works well, many new parts. But apparently only likes first gear now.

Grr.

Will it shift out of first if you get it up to 5300 rpm? I had this issue on my first 300D --- it was a stuck kickdown button (switch) behind the pedal. disconnected it and greased it up and it was good to go.

edit Transmission fixed: vacuum line was disconnected, I couldn't diagnose that without seeing it obviously. Now I am back in FL and fixed it in person.

It sure is. I am around this week to show it and get it sold.

Transmission fixed: it was just a bad vacuum line.

I offered to buy this car and the owner up the price,, is it for sale or a scam, was listed for $800 and now the owner wants $1,500 just another day in sunny florida. Good luck with the sale , i had cash and ready to buy. Will see you all in Titusille.

While I appreciate the bump, certainly, I respectfully disagree about claims of a "scam" of any type.

The price, $800, reflected the car not having a working transmission. The transmission, now works. So the price goes back up. It was just a vacuum line, but my father who is keeping the car at his home doesn't have experience troubleshooting MB transmission issues, so I wasn't able to determine that until I looked at it.

I've edited every mention of the price in the thread to keep it internally consistent, and have made very public the transmission was fixed. It started out around $4k, but the economy didn't really allow me to keep it at that price and have any expectation of selling it; I've steadily lowered the price down to bargain-of-the-century level even now but have used the same thread the entire time so as not to clutter the forum up.

I'm sorry you didn't like my counter-offer of $1000 (it's called negotiating, like you did when you told me you wouldn't be willing to pay the $800 for it on the phone), but you've got a few years, you'll be able to find another one somewhere else. Please don't mislead anyone else with inaccurate statements about what I'm offering, as I quote my email to you:

Quote:
I've got a competing bid on the car from a gentleman in Atlanta who originally saw it listed for $1500 (and, since I've fixed the transmission back to brand new and just replaced the battery yesterday, there aren't any other mechanical issues with the vehicle at this point so I'd say it's worth closer to that # again). He's offering a bit more, but if you could come up with $1000 I'd be okay with you taking it tomorrow.
Note that $1500 is what I originally had the car listed at, before I edited the posting to reflect a halved value due to the transmission. It's not how much I'm asking for it now, and it's not how much I asked you for. Until someone hands me cash (or at least calls to tell me they're starting a long road trip to buy the car), it's still for sale.

Since it's out there, I'll extend that offer to everyone else on the forum: $1000 cash, and you can drive away in it. To the tag agency, preferably, since it's not currently registered -- but at that point it's up to you, since it's your car!

Thanks for looking everyone, I'm sorry I won't be down to personally show the car to anyone else as I head back to Washington tonight but I am happy to arrange showings and test drives as required while the car is still up for sale.

SOLD!

Thanks for the interest, everyone! And to the various people who had logistical issues, etc. and couldn't quite make it, I'm sure there's another great car out there somewhere.
