Sounds nice. I would be tempted if closer even though I am already looking like a used car lot here.;)
|
Still have the car. Will trade for w123 wagon or ?? I may pull the engine and trans and repower a Ranger or Jeep :). Never like this 190 body style but it's a diesel :).
|
Craigslist link is bad. Does it run at all?
|
Has an air leak at fuel filter. Loses prime overnight. Get it started and it runs. Here's a new link. 1984 Mercedes 190D -

Can you post pics please?
|
I can't seem to load them from my iPad  there's a cl link in my last post
|
Thanks!
|
How healthy would you say the engine is? Any oil leaks? Anything other than losing prime causing issues?
That and if possible may we see some better pics? Craigslist likes to shrink them down and I can't see how the interior is. Thanks. |
Are you willing to deliver?
|
I can but it won't be cheap. Probably better going with a commercial hauler
|
Just a couple questions:
1. Really, how much rust and where is it? 2. Given the fuel / air leak you described, can the vehicle be driven home? Can I take a planbe ride, then drive it back, like I did for benhogan's 350SDL? |

My 84 190D 5 speed is an unrepairable rust bucket, but it refuses to die. We ignore it for months, but it starts right up. I would transplant it's mechanicals to your mostly rust free body. Dave |
this car is tempting

Have you seen it? I still haven't had my questions answered. |
I will catch up with questions later today. Busy at work. Thx

there is a engine shock absorber? On front of engine that needs replacing, the lower mounting piece seemed to have a rubber bushing that has gone bye bye, the shock absorber rattles.... PeachParts FastLane Mercedes Parts Store Theres rust in one rear wheel well, I think passenger side. Can't say for the underside as I have never had it on a lift. I can have better pics of areas of rust on Friday. I have the day off from work and I'll have time then. Thx |

If it comes to that point you have a good shot at it. Thx |
How do I post pics from an ipad2?

I saw the pics and am going to pass on the car. It looks to be too big of a project for me to want to deal with. Thank you.

Do you still have the car? I had one of those for 6 years, and I loved it!!!! I also buffed out the paint on mine (actually, paint shop did when they replaced door skin) and it looked new. Depending on the tires used, the mileage is 36 to 40 mpg. Also, does the AC work? Has the car had regular maintenance? Would you be interested in a trade for a low-mileage (200K) '83 300D? Has a strong drivetrain, not much mileage on the rebuilt auto tranny . .. very strong car. I miss the mileage though.
|
I have it. I might be interested. Pm me with some pics. Thx
Ac is not working, I don't have ants records on the cars maintenance I prefer the w123 series over the 190d's |
In response to a couple of pm's here is some info The car has sat for over 2 yrs has an air leak in the fuel system at the secondary fuel filter needs an engine shock absorber, I have driven it maybe 2 miles to a storage area and that was it.
Probably needs glow plugs as well. I'd tow the car I was getting it. I have no interest in getting it running as a daily driver. If anyone is interested I'd suggest a road trip and come take a look. If no one buys it I am pulling the engine and trans and scrapping the rest. Pulling what's of resal value and posting parts here or on eBay. Heck I might donate it to the local gun range for a target. I'll use the eng/trans to repower a jeep or truck. See the previous posts for links to pics and other details. Pm Me if you want to see the car. Thanks. In a month or so it will be gone one way or another. Save a 190d 5 speed and feel good in the process. I dislike the body style, looks like a baby w124 :). the w124 was a classic but I much more prefer the w123 over the 201 or 124 Shoot me interesting trade offers. I like 50-60 American classics, other euro cars, guns, a bucket of gold :). I want it gone from my storage area. I may have delivery options of a friend with a truck and a car hauler but he will need to be compensated for his time, gas and etc. |

Motivated to get rid of it......any ideas? Saw some great rat of ideas at Turkey Run in Daytona over the weekend. How about a w201 converted to a pickup? I saw a 220d that was a cool end product a couple of years ago. He was from Savannah. Can someone photoshop a w201 sedan morphed with a pickup? Thanks

Unfortunately, for me, that body and interior is too "rough" if I were to buy it as my primary/only car. And, $$ are very tight (I have none due to unemployment), otherwise, I would pick up the car for the drivetrain, and wait til I found a good pickup to drop it into. I did see some links to a company that will make the adaptor plate for the MBZ engines to be adapted to a Nissan pickup, etc., which looked like a good option. I would certainly enjoy watching the transition of your car into a pickup or small camper van. I thought very highly of that engine/drivetrain. I had mine for six years, and other than the expensive fix on the AC (Lived in Los Angeles area and stationed in DC area, where it was needed), I only broke down twice . . . once when I first got the car at 216K miles, and once after owning it for six years. I had forgotten that I had AAA when I broke down that time. So, I decided to have a valve job done, and replace the clutch after that breakdown (broke the alternator bracket, actually from the high pressure on the system from the R134 conversion). Then I moved to Montana, where i and a friend went over the car, connecting all the little things they forgot to when they put the car back together. Got the car running great again, and some 15-yr old with daddy's Suburban crashed into it on the only night it was parked on street. Frame bent, end of story. I couldn't find a decent p/u or other body at the time to transplant my drivetrain into, so finally sold the car, and the buyer drove it as was, bent frame, cut the back off, and welded a pickup body on back. It's somewhere in AZ now. It religiously got 37 mpg on the highway, even with the AC on.
Although the 123 is comfortable and I feel safer in it, I prefer the manual tranny, and I'm not happy with the fuel mileage (26-28), especially in Florida where diesel is more expensive than gas. It is holding up very well though, and yesterday, I exhausted myself scrubbing down the paint (after-market acrylic enamel - 5 yrs. old), and applying good coat of wax . . . starting to look really good again. Maybe this weekend, I'll get out the dead toothbrushes, carpet cleaner, rags and bucket, and detail out the interior. If you adapt your engine (2.2L) into a jeep or P/U, I suggest you keep the tranny/rear end, as people want that for conversions on the 123s. Or you may want to pick up a solid 300D and drop the 5-spd into it. With either project, would love to watch it being done. Well, today, am off to get my aunt's refrigerator, as it's bigger than the one that came with this house. Have to pick up a trailer and fridge dolly and get moving. I will be home in the late afternoon, if you wish to call me. I might have a few ideas on coversions for ya. Torie |
Sweet Olds!
53 was a great year for GM big cars. I had a lovely 53 Caddy, pastel yellow with a black roof. Original cloth interior. about 60 or 70K miles. Once I fettled it a bit I used to drive it anywhere. It was totally reliable and matched contemporary cars of the eighties in performance in all areas except cornering and fuel economy. Ride was plush, excellent brakes and got about 19 mpg highway. |
Anyone have any interest?
|
are you still at 2500?
|
I have some room in there for flexibility
