1980 300TD Wagon For Sale

Hello:

I am listing a 1980 300TD wagon for sale after discussing this car with moderator TXBill. I found the wagon at a local independent repair shop and I am not making anything if someone from this forum buys it. I am listing it because the M-B wagons are a desirable model for many, few of them are available, and this car looks to be in pretty good condition.

Any questions about this car should be directed to the seller, European Car Parts, at (210) 521-8822 in San Antonio. I cannot answer any other questions about this car other than the info I am providing in this thread.

This is what I know about this wagon. It is a 1980 model, W123 300TD, non-turbo 617 engine, 116,000 miles, and VIN #12319012017602 (so those interested can check CarFax). European Car Parts is asking $3,600 for the wagon and it has an "as is" warranty. I drove the car and looked it over. It started easily on a cool/cold morning, idled smoothly, engine sounded good, drove and steered well (no pulling), had good power, auto trans shifted smoothly, and no unusual noises heard as I drove it a short distance.

Other info that I was told (the seller did a lot of work) and that I found:

re-painted a dark brown with some metal flake in the paint - looks good;
M-B Tex is worn in good condition with no tears, rips, etc. (but I did not go over every square inch);
carpet is worn in good condition no rips or tears, but faded some in places and I did find some spots in the very back that may or may not come out (again, I did not look at every square inch);
engine sounds good has 325 psi cold compression +/- 5 psi which should yield 375-400+ psi hot compression;
valves clearance adjusted;
oil and filter change;
engine compartment looks OK and is fairly clean;
auto trans rebuilt;
front end rebuilt: ball joints, lower control arm bushings, replaced both tie rods and drag link, alignment;
tires are in good condition with lots of tread;
M-B alum mag wheels;
AC converted to 134;
Becker radio works, front speakers work (I did not check the back ones), no antenna mast;
speedo and odometer work;
oil gauge works and shows good pressure, but does not go to zero when engine is shut off;
windows: driver's works fine, left rear works but jerky, right side do not work and told they would fix them (dirty switch);
front grill missing some metal strips, plastic is not broken;
dash is badly cracked and needs a cover or a new dash;
fog lights: one amber lens other is clear lens;
roof rack in good condition no rust or obvious dents, bends, etc.;
body looks good with panels lining up evenly (doors, fenders, etc.);
wagon sits level with no spring sag;
suspension felt solid (good shocks);

I make no representations beyond what I was told and observed.

Any other questions should be directed to European Car Parts.

Good Luck!
Tom

At the risk of sounding rude, IMHO, they are about $1500.00 too high on the price.

Mr. Bill:

Your opinion is welcomed, as I sure other members want to know the value of this wagon. I don't know how firm $3,600 is, and I am sure anyone interested in buying it will try to lower the price. I just looked on eBay and a 1980 300TD wagon with 211,000+ miles just sold for $3,027, a 1985 300TD with a bit over 100,000 miles sold for $5,500 using the buy it now feature, a 1983 300TD with over 325,000 miles sold for $2,900, and a 1982 300TD with 97,000 miles sold for $10,600 (Barry Gibb owned this one).

Hope this helps!
Tom

300td value

I too have been watching the value of the wagons and around 3-4 K is average for a 160 or so thousand mile car....just wish mine was that low of mileage. Mins is at 364K and I "hope" to sell it for a grand once I have done a bit of work to it.
