WTB gas W126
Lookng for a nice driver quality gasser W126. I've owned 123s and 124s. Want the big body now. :D
Color not critical, even an off-beat one is okay. Not looking for a museum piece, but absolutely NOT looking for a project. 300, 420, 500, or 560, any of the above would get my interest in nice condition. I'm in South Florida, but I'll travel for the right car. More fun anyhow. ;) Reply to this thread or drop me a PM if you have one or know of one. Yes, I've seen the 500SEL on BringATrailer and yes, I'm definitely in on that auction. :D |
Why a gasser when there is dieseL?

Uh because the gasser is 3x the fun. :D Diesel is cool but gasser is fast. I love my 420.
Just a tip in your search, I wouldn't go for the 300 engine in a W126. Its underpowered and slow in the city and high revving on the highway. |
Bring a Trailer is an interesting website, just read the comments carefully for any car you are interested in. Sometimes the descriptions are a little enthusiastic if you know what I mean.
Any W126 v8 should be checked for the head gasket leaking oil at the rear of the engine, for camshaft/rocker arm wear on the passenger side camshaft, and of course, timing chain rail condition. Fuel distributers cost a fortune and don't like E10 fuel, poor running may entail much more than a simple tuneup. |
Thanks Edward Wyatt, absolutely true. That 500SEL on there that ends today is a good one -- that's Aaron's former car. He is either a mod over here or a frequent poster. I am trying to decide if I want to bid on it w/o ever having seen, let alone inspected the car in person. Last time I did that with an MB it did not work out well at all.
pawoSD: The 300 is my least preferred option, but condition trumps model -- I'd buy a 300SEL or SE in nice condition for the right deal, but I'd honestly love to find a 500SEL. This is why I'm so tempted by the one on BaT, but I do want to be able to see / drive / inspect the car before handing over the green. jake12tech: I've owned several MB Diesels and one VW TDI. I like them, but I don't drive big mileage any more and don't need the economy of the Diesel. The driving experience on a gasser is simply better, unless you're talking a much more modern Diesel. |
