1980 Mercedes Benz 300TD wagon, cream/saddle, updated with the following: VIN: 12319012013774 SAM_0988_1 OM617 {this car originally was naturally aspirated and auto trans} 717.nnn cast iron 4 speed, completely sorted; shifts well, reverse light works; sounds perfect and clutch is newer; no leaks 2.88 rear end with no leaks; good axle boots and bearings Manual heater with deleted CC1 A/C; dash removed to take out the {Chrysler supplied butt ugly} control boxes {ALL of them} sub-harness, evaporator and clean and re-seal the heater box Full OEM 617 exhaust with MB paper tags still on the pipes Starts and runs __well__. Self leveling pump {works} and tank; but no rear studs; rear 300D Sachs shocks and heavy duty custom springs in the rear to provide 'proper' ride height and good handling Interior complete, but partially dis-assembled {footwell shields, door jambs seals, luggage compartment carpets and factory mats and some bits still need to be installed} A solid body sourced from Escondido, CA; alloy wheels and stainless wheel well trim {not my choice, but the owner liked it-- so it stayed} Some minor rust on "exposed" edges of hood, doors, and trim; but this car is SOLID, with no penetrations in the USUAL places; tailgate, rockers, footwells, and both cowls are intact Paint is "desert baked" with the usual curling of door jamb trim that comes with sitting in the sun for almost a decade {the reason those parts were removed} Manual sunroof {works and seals}; power windows; drivers seat has a rip. Proper {manual} mirrors, all working. The story, short version: I contracted to "find and build" a 300TD for a friend, who at the time had more money than time. After some searching, I found this specimen, on ebay, with NO drivetrain. The engine and transmission had been pulled for rebuild, and the car stored "out back" when the Escondido fire took hold and MELTED the aluminum {engine and trans} parts into a creek of spall that i witnessed running downhill from the sellers garage. Over the next two years, I found an engine donor, and began the 'long haul' of reconfiguring the car to my idea of 'the perfect hot rod wagon'; long ratio rear end, turbo, and 4 speed combine to give SUPER first and second gear acceleration while still getting 36MPG on the highway and in excess of 30 in the city when you can resist racing Mustangs at the stop light. The bad; The body is straight, but has dings and a few good mashes that need attention. One strip of moulding is missing. The interior, as the photos show {the photos are two weeks old; I forgot to reset the camera date after a battery change, so ignore the 2015 date} is in need of work; but its ALL there, INCLUDING factory matching carpets and mats. The heater control WORKS but is missing the plastic bezel; and the wiring to the resistor box is temporary, needs to be properly constructed. I HAVE all the connector housings and spare FACTORY wire harness bits that are included for properly finishing the heater installation. The right rear tail lamp has some intermittent short; so the tail light service comes and goes on that corner {only}. The pictures tell most of the rest of the story. Pending divorces forces sale. Price is reasonable for the quality of the project. It can be driven anywhere -- has good tires, brakes, and newer battery, alternator, and other bits. I KNOW this car inside and out, but its not mine. Send me inquiries and I'll try to respond with best quality data I have. I DO have the keys, and its currently stored indoors. Price: $4,350 where is, as is. I'll consider delivering it for the "right road trip".
