Widest front wheels/tires for a 500e
Okay, I've contemplated this question for a while and have finally at least made an attempt to answer it for myself. I recently installed the 18X9 ET 34 AMG Monoblocks with the 245 X 40 X 18 Michelin Pilot Sport tires on the front of my 500E. They Fit! I did however have to roll the fenders for clearance. The right tire was scrapping the fender just a tad so I rolled the fenders to full flat. The 245 X 40 is a bit small for a 9 inch wheel so I will be going up to a size 255 X 35 X 18 Michelin Pilot sport. To tell you the truth, I'd really like to go 265 X 35 X 18, but fear that that may be pushing it a bit.
Ultimately I think I will just try to find what is the largest front size and go that size all the way around for rotational purposes. (Although I am seriously thinking about going with the 285 X 35 X 18 Pilot in the rear just to give the car a bigger fatter rounder prettier butt

I'm surprised you had to roll the fenders. I have 18x9.5" wheels wrapped in 245/40R18 (front), with an offset of ET25, and I could probably space them out another 10mm. How low is your car? 255s will fit in front, 285s will definitely fit in back, perhaps even 295s. As far as wheels go, I wouldn't be surprised if a 10" wheel could be done in front and maybe even 11" in the back.

Its the offset...I Think
Don't quote me, but I think that the reason that I had to roll and you did not is the offset. With the ET 34 I have more wheel sticking out(read a deeper wheel lip) than your ET 25's which probably has the majority of the wheel to the inside and a relatively flat outter surface. My goal is to fill up those curvaceous fenders and the outward kick of ET 34 does pretty good job of it. The 9's have a similiar effect as a "Wonder Bra,"....they really draws your eye to the "frontend"!

Actually, an ET25 wheel sticks 10mm further out than an ET35. (My wheels are ET35 with 10mm spacers making them effectively ET25.) I think it would take an ET15 or so to really be flush with those fenders.

Yes - a lower ET number (25) will stick out further. I like to get proper offset where the wheel is pulled in as far as possible, for fender clearance. But instaling 9.0's up front has to be pushing the clearance envelope, even on a 500...!

I bolted up my 10" rear rim on the front..et 25...no problem but didn't take it on the highway...would suspect a fender roll would be needed...and removing the inner liner. Worked OK in the driveway...no rubs on the suspension components. I'd like to do 9.5" all around someday and sell my 2 piece AMG rims...or just keep em' !
Some Swede I think has 10" all around on his E500...will find the pic and post.

i bolted 18x9.5 front and 18x10 rears on mine a month back. so far, no rubbing. i haven't tried to put passengers in the back though...
thing is, i forgot the ET. i'll call up my wheel guy and ask him again...
