Hi,
I just wonder why 16V is not considered as a factory hot rod on the headline in this section. Is it because of its lack of power? Maybe Cosworth is not good enough to be considered as one of the finest engine tuners,is it? Any comments? By the way, no offend.

Hey, how about the 5.0 litre V8's or even the V12's?? awwww, c'mon, I already eaten a few "sports" cars for lunch on the freeway in my 500SEL (the handling isn't quite boat like with 19" AMG and Pilot Sports)

No worries, if I'm denied entry in the hotrod club, I'll just sit humbly in the corner and think silently "well at least my car is huge."

This is one of my favorite sections, but I want more good MB stories!! Have fun guys, be safe, and may your insurance premiums be low (yeah right)

16V, 500SEL, 560SEC and V12 are welcome.
This is just a forum where you can "shoot the breeze" about high performance Benzes.
Post away!

IROC-Z(light version of Z28) is a Camero with either 350 or 305 V8. Nice exhaust sound....but that's pretty much about it... :p

P.S. Relation between Z28 and IROC-Z is like Porsche 911 and 911RS...

Adamou,

Andy's right about the IROC-Z...it's the high-end of the Chevy Camaro Z-28 food chain. Sorry I didn't consider my international compatriots out there! They sound good and are reasonably quick around town, but have NO highway legs...although the owners often fail to recognize this shortcoming

"IROC-Z = high end of Camaro food chain"

Is that sort of like "evolved pond scum"...j/k. Those cars are all about off-the-line. Top end power, aerodynamics, stability at speed, handling (especially on twisty/uneven roads), etc are severely lacking.

The fun side is the degree of psychological damage inflicted upon their owners/drivers when the bubba-mobile gets chewed by one (or several) of the denizens in here.

Michael,
If I remember correctly, the only problem with a highway confrontation like what you describe is that you are so far out in front of him so fast that you don't get to clearly view the expression of angst in the IROC driver's face, right? j/k

we all know the IROC cant keep up with a hot rob Benz (amg, 500e, etc.) but lets not forget the difference in cost here...an '89 IROC can be quired for like $2000!!!
i know that the new production Saleen Mustang is a pretty good performer. At $34,000 brand new, 360 HP supercharged..i know its a cheesy car but as far performance goes, i hear its pretty good...it would give an AMG a good run....
trying to be fair....

This Factory Hot-Rod section is open to anyone. Maybe we should change the title to "Hot-Rods" so that everyone is included...Supertuner cars too...
There will always be some cars out there that can take on your hot-rod;you never know what lurking under the hood. Personally, I LOOK for these cars. If I can't beat 'em in the straight, I wait for a turn. A properly executed turn will put you ahead of cars that have more HP than you. I haven't seen a 360HP Saleen Mustang yet, but at the stoplight races, it's the torque that matters!!!

By popular demand we've changed the name of this forum to "Hot-Rods".
We also created a new category..."discussion". This works better than "feedback".

One other constantly ignored factor is the driver. Most driver's I've run accross who pilot the ultra high-torque sleds like the Saleen and whatnot get "mad" and start making driver error mistakes that can let a less powerful car take them. Example...let's say a sedate appearing german car keeps pace with them even after they punch it. The fact that they can't instantly smoke a mundane sedan seems to rub them the wrong way for some reason. Next stoplight the Stang gets pissy and punches the bejesus out of it off the line. While he is murdering his rear tires the ASR equipped german sedan is off and running with little fanfare. By the time the Saleen has its tires hooked up the german is up on its cams. Then the road gets twisty....by now the solid axle Saleen is seeing red. Twisty roads, broken pavement, off-camber turns, wet patches of pavement, etc can all be treacherous but much worse for the solid rear axle crowd vs say...something with Porsche/MB or AMG suspension. (and ASR/ESP to boot!) Not that this has ever happened in any way to anybody I know...yadda yadda yadda.

EG....Lee
