I HAVE SEEN MANY PPL WANTED TO LOWER THEIR BENZ...BUT HAVE ANYBODY EVER USE THIS THING
CALLED THE "SPRING CLIPER" IT ATTATCHED TO YOUR SPRINGS TO ADJUST THE HEIGHT YOU JUST SCREW IT INWARD OR OUTWARD, DO ANYBODY KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT?! I JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHAT CAN IT DO TO MY PERFORMANCE?!

The problem with something like this is it will comprise the springs compression ratio. Consequently you will run into problems like bottoming out and worse you could cause variable spring rates on different wheels that could cause you to lose control of you vehicle in tight turns. This solution is only good for drag strips!!!

Get yourself a set of lowered springs installed if you want your benz lower. Using clamps or the "spring cliper" on a stiff german chassis and suspension is about as insane as cutting of a coil or two for the same effect

just my 2 cents.

Yal is right. Using those type of things will get your car to look low but it wont be very safe while driving. I just lowered my c280 with H&Rs and it wasnt that expensive cost was like 205 dollars and had the pads for free.

I'm able to get prices at cost because my good friend owns a MB dealership here in the bay area so basically I just call up the distribitor and order the parts.
The ride is great. All the cars I've owned I've lowered so its really hard for me to give an A to B comparison on rides because as soon as I take delivery on a car I drop it as soon as it gets in my garage.

Donny, or anyone else, how did you get your springs installed so inexpensively? I have a 1987 300E that I would like to lower a bit, and the Eibach springs cost 289, and installation everywhere in town is quoted around 400, this is way out of my budget for just springs. Let me know if there is a way around this gross expenditure.
Thanks!

Chris:

I agree, where is everyone coming up with such inexpensive numbers? Here's my budget for springs (H&R), shocks (Bilstein), and installation:

[1] Springs @ $246.44 (thx Luke @ Tirerack)
[2] Shocks @ $241.84 (incl tax/shipping; fronts only)
[3] Install + alignment $480.00 (@ $80/hr shop rate)

All-in-all it's gonna run me about a $grand.

Brian

John - With 16V in your Username I assume the car you are writing about is a 2.3 16V. www.Delsingmotorsport.com did/provided all the suspension parts for my 2.3 16V. This included lower springs and parts that allow for height adjustment. If you check out their web site you'll see the parts and how they work. Workmanship on the components is outstanding.

typical suspension replacement of shocks and springs are around a 3hr for labor. so depending on the labor rate 300-400 is about average.
Since my buddy owns a MB dealership i just help my self to one of the lifts and alignment racks when I can if not I get the work done at a discount. So my situation is a little different than the rest.

Hi guys:
I'm planning lower my W124 E420 since 17" rims on the way. Could you guys recommend a good set of springs and shocks combo? Something worth it and does the job right but doesn't cost too $$$. Thanks

surfnvet 07-01-2000 07:08 PM

In general if suspension work is being done...a shop known for excellent alignments usually will be an excellent place to have springs replaced. Ask the mechanics who they like to align their cars.

Hi everybody
I installed it in D2Technik on Alhambra,
THe other shops like F1motorsports(Vincent) or Impex autosport(Harry) are good choice too, For My 97 E420 springs they can gave me 300-400 plus tax including installation, Check their websites for further details(f1motorsports.com and d2technik.com) installation usually cost about 100 dollars, for springs installation, for shocks would be more expensive. I am surprised that the costs of installing springs from one of you guys is 400 bucks

I saw Eibach Pro-Kit for around $350 at www.carparts.com

There is also a 33% off purchases of $300US or more floating around for new customers...quite a good bargain...
