Guy's recently I have noticed that I just drive for the hell of driving. I actually enjoy driving my Benz that I will take the longer route to whereever I'm going, and I when I have some time to spare I'll just drive around aimlessly. I find just the right amount of relaxation (from my light music) and exhileration from my mercedes. My friends say that this is "not normal behavior for a person, just get to point Ato point B as soon as possible". Do others feel the same way as I do.?

I Vote "Normal"

Capt Alex,

It's only normal for Merceds drivers. Your friends just don't get it. :-) Don't worry, be happy!

Happy Holidays

Tell your friends to color outside the lines once in a while. The most interesting things are often found by accident on unknown side roads. Sometimes good, sometimes not, but if you don't take the trip, you'll never know, and always wonder.

Love my 16 valve 190

I always take the long way home. Rowing the 5 speed tranny and getting the cosworth motor on cam is exhilerating!

You Screw Ball

Captalex sir, someone told me once I was a nut. I was sitting in my 300 just laid back and listening to soft music. I turned to that person and just turned away. We may be nuts but praise God we're screwed on the right bolt. Merry christmas All.

Captain,

I have been guilty of the same affliction for 37 years, and it didn't start in an MB. My first car was a '47 Chevy with a '48 title. I bought it for $12.50 when I was thirteen. I made it run and made it safe enough that my Dad would let me drive it. I got my drivers license at 14 and have driven for the heck of it ever since.

If there are various levels of this illness I would put myself in a much more ill category than you, because I did it with a junkie old '47/'48 Chevy, not an MB.

My commute to the office is 90 miles one way. Much of it on fun country roads. I doubt that I will ever find (or seek for that matter) a cure if I live to be 150. So if there is a funny farm for people like us, I'll see you there some day.

Merry Christmas,

I guess that its a passion of mine. When I am cruising, and then I see a open road, I get a smile,:) and then when I see curves I get a bigger smile. :D

Destination

As a BMW motorcycle enthusiast, I have always had a saying.... "When I get on my Beemer, I've already reached my destination." I think it also applies to our Mercedes. :-)

All of the above plus a dose of convertible (SL style),great music (preferably loud), great weather, and scenic winding roads - and you've got all the reason you need to drive, drive, and drive.

You might want to schedule a check up...........for your friends:D

I have been know to hop in the car and drive a few hours just because I like spending time with my car. My car never tells me I'm nuts.

Alex, welcome to the club

There is nothing wrong with you for enjoying the drive. On my 300E, I do that all the time. On my 500SEL as well. Consider the other people to be the one with issues because they don't have cars that are fun driving. Anyone have any more good race stories? Alex, you get to do any mods to your car?

Ben

You are not alone!

And there is nothing wrong with you either.

I suffer the same inclinations, always have, always will. Like Larry B, my driving career started early - learned to drive at 12 in a 50 something International P/U and a 55 Chevy. Was licensed at 14 and been taking the roads less traveled ever since. Even when I travel for work, if time allows or I have the choice, I'll opt to drive, just to see the countryside.

The area I live in is in close proximity to mountains. I love to take the 280 SEL out and run the switchbacks and curves, it's amazing how that car can straighten the curves so well. Outside/inside/outside and power through (using only your 12 feet though), what a rush, and the 280 gets her best mileage playing like that.

No, you are not alone.

That's NORMAL!!!!

I do the same, too. I enjoy driving, and especially the first week of driving my MB, I take longest route to A-B or B-A for that matters. After last winter, I drove my car for the first time of that year, and went to do grocessary for my Mother, and it took me 50 min driving(go there and back), which takes 10 min(round trip)in my 1988 Suzuki Swift Turbo.. :p
