Hello all.

I purchased my 400e about a month ago with only 62k miles on it. It has been a blast to drive and looks like it just came from the show room. Black on tan.

The car was 100% stock when I got it, but so far I have added K&N air filters, a "chip" from Precision Auto Design, Bosch +4 plugs, and new caps/rotors. Now the car purrrs at idle and pulls like nothing I have ever driven.

I am now looking into upgrading the suspension. I want to keep the "stock" look, so no lowering springs or tire changes. My question is will sway bars be a better bang for the buck or will a set of Bilstine shocks be better? I don't mind a harsher ride, but I am really looking for better cornering. Any suggestions???

I am also looking at doing the euro headlight conversion from Bekkers. Has anyone done this on a 400e? I want to make sure the intake vents will still function correctly even with the euro converted headlights.

Thanks for any help!!!

Great board. Tons of info!

Congrat on your purchase of the 400E, I am sure you will have plenty of enjoyable miles to go.

If you have stock tire/rims, upgrade them may well be the best "bang-for-the-buck" upgrade. Plus-One tire combo may give you what you are looking for, yet keep the comfort in line.

As for Euro Conversion, there shouldn't be any problem at all. However, the existing wiper/washer for headlight may render useless unless you also will go for Euro-Spec wipers/motors(which is similiar on the late model W124, late 1993-1995).

Forget the suspension tweaks for now. The 400E is completely under-tired in my opinion on the OEM 195/65/15. I really like the way it handles on 225/50/16's on all 4 corners. That is the limit for width on that car and it really makes a sport sedan out of it. Check out the picture of the silver 400E in the Featured Cars section of this website. http://www.peachparts.com/images/400e_front.jpg That is a 93 400E with 225/50/16's.

Do the wheels/tires and let me know how it works for you. Then we can talk suspension tweaks. As for specific tires, let me know your priorities and I'll be happy to discuss the options.

Congratulations on your new car....Lee

What is required to take the '92/'93 400/500E headlights & lens to the '94/'95 look? Do you have to get the updated hood and trunk?

You can get Euro Spec headlights from many companies like Precision Auto. It's simply plug'n play and will improve night lighting dramatically.

Not hood update is needed.

OK, thanks to all for the information. I will look into the tire/wheel upgrade. I was hoping the anti-roll bars or shocks/struts were the way to go. I need to "hide" the upgrades from the wife. She does not like me upgrading anything on the cars. The bars/shocks would have been nice since she would not notice them. She has no idea of the chip and filter.

I'll try and get some pictures posted soon.

Later!

Andy...

I put euro's on my '91 300E and was reading what you said here...do I understand that the headlight wipers for the newer 124 body will fit the euro headlights?

Thanx,

Scott
