Kompressor V8 For Sale on Ebay...

Auction Link

Now theoretically could this powerplant be transplanted (along with transmission, wiring, rear end) into a W124 400E? How much could a car like that cost?

With a proper suspension setup it could be one hell of a sleeper and reliable....

Does anyone know if this engine will mate with a 560SL transmission. I know the transmission would also be nice. How much is a computer for this engine?

That engine will not mate with anything that isn't naturally possessing a M112/M113 engine to begin with. You might be able to try to get it in but the project would be cost prohibitive. Now a C class (coupe maybe!?) would be a different story. (expect to break stuff in the driveline for awhile)

John, I know your post is kind of old now, but yesterday I read an interesting article on the MB Coupes website about just such a transplant. It's fascinating reading and there are plenty of pictures, too. Check it out. I believe the engine is the same one you mentioned.

A few facts and rumors to add to this story...

The owner of that car, Satish Tummala is also the founder of the website www.mbcoupes.com

He's a radiologist in Michigan, and his '89 560SEC belonged to an oil co. exec in Southern California. When Satish (who knows so much about these cars, he could literally build one from the ground up if he had the parts) got the car, Mich.smog laws didn't apply to the car, I think, so the car became a test mule for every modification he could try, to get more performance and power out of it, beginning with Remus exhaust and headers that worked around the crappy US exhaust crossover system.

The first big mod. was a 6.0 liter AMG engine (I think) that was done by Barry Taylor at AMG West in California. I got a ride in it the night it was picked up, and the torque was breath taking. I tried to race his car in my stock 560 by the SF airport and got beaten like the family mule; at 80 mph he just ran away from me. However, that engine had problems and it blew up soon, as I remember.

That led to the replacement W119 engine, from a wrecked R129 (story with pictures in the website.) The website, while for the SEC owners, is distinctly and admittedly, performance oriented.

I have since heard a story that the engine is now out of that car and has been replaced with a late model V12 motor. Satish could do that if anyone could, he understands the electronics, wiring harnesses, emissions controls, and other things necessary to make the conversions work.

The other story on the website, about Jack Middlebrook's 560SEC converted to Euro specs., is worth a read also. Satish took the lead in that conversion and gave generously of his time and expertise to make that car what it was.
It was literally stripped to a shell and then rebuilt.

It won first place in the Las Vegas SEC concours in 2002, by unanimous acclaim there was no better SEC around than that one. I saw it, and it was breath taking. I believe that Jack got married a couple of years ago and sold the car due to changed circumstances in his life. I don't know where it is now.

Read 'em both

Jim, I read both those articles and was absolutely fascinated by them. The 560SEC is one of the most beautiful MB's I've ever seen. Satish's is certainly sweet looking from what I can tell from his pictures.

Jack's car was purchased by Jonathan down in Atlanta. He's a fan of the w126 as well and has a NA version AMG and a white SEC he modded by placing European Tri-Y headers/exhaust.

Satish's M119 motor was placed into Axel's white SEC. Satish did also the installation. Axel is in the Phili area I think.

Barry Taylor...haven't heard his name bandied about for awhile. Not surprised the engine blew up.
