I tried both flat and satin black.
Satin is nice. I also think if one had a dark car, the car color might not look bad. |

I am also interested in painting my Grill. My car is a Smoke Silver 300E. What kind of paints does one use? Should a body shop do it? What color. I would also want to paint the exterior trim of my car , as it's faded, and to keep it looking good I must apply Backto Black every couple days.

I have a Smoke Silver 300E and had the grill done. I ordered a new plastic insert and aluminum strips/clips from partsShop (I think it was less than $30) because the old one had pits and dings from the years, and had my local body shop spray it matte (satin) black, and they added a satin clearcoat. They didn't charge me, as I have had most of my repair work done at their shop in the past. It looks just like the new MB grills! It has held up well over the last 6 months, with no pitting. As someone else suggested on this forum, I used Kiwi leather Scuff Magic on the hood release, and it has held up pretty well and blends in with the grill better than the original grey color. Along with Euro lights, the new grill took 10 years off of the car's front end. Hope this helps.

So the best idea is to have a body shop spray the grill, instead of doing a spray can job. I was thinking of using, Interlux Polyurathane paint. I ahve used this paint on my old boats bow pulpit and the finish looked just like it was sprayed on, and it was also very, very very durable. I could thin it out and use it in a spray bottle. What do you guys think aboiut having the bumpers and door handles sprayed. I was thinking about spraying all the bumpers the same dark grey that was factory. Then maybe spray the door handles smoke silver with a chrome inlay, in the little trim on the door handle (look close and you'll see what I mean) When I apply the back to black it stays great , but only for a day or two.

CaptAlex300E:
I have seen some 300e's with painted bumpers, and they look very clean. However, paint fades, needs polishing and waxing, and scratches or rock dings let the original color show through and give a crater effect to the bumper. My 88 Acura had the old front bumper re-painted after an accident. After 5 years of following sand and gravel trucks out to the freeway, it looks like a bad case of teen acne! Personally, I would just keep using the B2B. If I were really brave, I might try the "Forever Black" dye that Performance sells, but I haven't found anyone who has actually used it before.

Taking into consideration what you (JCE) told me I think I will keep using the B2B. However the Grill I will do, I saw a E320 today with that done and think it looks really good. Thanks

If you want to paint the grille, black looks great.
I did mine in matte black, and I think it looks amazing. Your choice on matte, gloss or semi gloss finish. Check out my page to see pics of my cra before and after. you will notice a tremendous difference. Alon
