Just thought I would share my experience. I have been trying to find ways to increase the performance on my C43 for some time now. I wanted to basically focus on the breathing of the engine (intake and exhaust). I put the car on a lift and examined the exhaust system built by AMG. Must say that it is a VERY nice system with mandrel bends and stainless steel piping. I did notice however that the exhaust system contains 4 catalytic converters and 1 large resonator. My thought was to eliminate the secondary converters and resonator so that there would be less restriction. (Of course this would only be for race purposes only)=). Well after months of pondering the outcome, I finally got around to doing the modification. All I can say is WOW, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! First of all, the cats and resonator weigh about 70-80 lbs. They are very nicely built but pretty restrictive. The power difference is very noticeable. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference but to my surprise, it did. The other concern was regarding the noise. I was worried that the exhaust sound would be very loud but actually it's not that bad. I really like the growl that the exhaust makes when you give it some gas. The issue of the check engine light coming on was not an issue because the O2 censor is located directly behind the first cats so it has not been removed. All in all, I am very glad I chose to do this. It was painful to watch someone cut into the AMG exhaust system but it was all worth it in the end. Now, to ponder about the intake system!!!!

good luck!

Wesss,
Out of curiosity, did you have flanges welded in so that you *could* bolt-in the secondary cats and resonator...for emissions testing, etc.?

Curious minds want to know...

Hi Glen,

Yes, I did have flanges welded in so that I can swap the pieces back when necessary. I wanted to make sure that I did not completely destroy the AMG exhaust. =)
