I'm considering converting my 88 300E to Megasquirt II. I have successfully converted my 77 911 to megasquirt I v2.2, (fuel control only) so I have a good understanding of what the project takes.

I've sorted out most of the project, but I'm not quite sure about the ignition.

My plan is to use the MSII to drive an MSD-6A box which will triger a coil and distribute the spark via the existing distributor. What I need to know is what the factory ignition system uses as a triger. I assume it's the crank sensor. but what kind of trigger is it? Hall effect? variable reluctor? something completly else? i'm hoping what ever it is, it generates a pulse for each ignition event.

any help would be greatly appriciated!

Thanks,
AL

Where did you hear that?
Two plugs in a cylinder, on opposite ends of each other WILL produce two flame fronts. Two flame fronts will EFFECTIVELY ignite the mixture in the combustion chamber faster. The more fuel consumed in the combustion chamber before BDC the better.

Many airplane internal combustion engines run two plugs per cylinder. Now, this is mostly for safety reasons however, they do make a difference in power output. A simple pre-flight inspection will prove this. If you shut off either one of the magnetos, you will notice a significant decrease in RPM and power.

True, In no way am I a combustion chamber engineer but the engineers at Mercedes are. There would be no economic reason I could think of that Mercedes would add dual plugs to their engines (which they have) so my guess is they do it for performance. And I know they can design a combustion chamber.

Well, not exactly. A higher flow rate injector will give you the ability to add more power via forced induction, nitrous oxide or other power adders in the future. The idea of flow rate is to keep the duty cycle of the injector under 80% at WOT and still be able to idle good for your application.

Also, some newer injectors like the Delphi design atomize better. With better atomization you can cool your mixture slightly better, have more precise combustion and a more efficient burn.

If your going to use your original injectors, I'd HIGHLY suggest having them cleaned. There's no telling how old they are and they probably spray like crap. There's no point in tuning without cleaning the injectors. Use these guys: http://www.witchhunter.com/
They'll give your injectors a great cleaning at a good price.

That's the way to do it!

Are you going to rebuild the harness with new wiring? I'm sure your project will turn out fine.

Hello I am looking into controlling the ignition in my M104.980 300ce engine by a Microsquirt. It looks very possible to me but I found out that the EZL communicates with the KE Jetronic ECU and the automatic transmission. Is this a problem ?
