Smile R16 Value

The P/N for R16 is: 000 540 24.81
09 8659 24

To unplug it, carefully remove the tape to about 3/4"from the end of the assy. that faces the front of the engine, then simply pull the resistor section out.

Mr Brabus

Performance tips? The car is had to improve mechanically. Drive it hard and improve your skills with it. Sign-up for a performance driving school and get it on a track several times a year.

I removed the self-leveling suspension (most of my driving is done solo or with one passenger) and installed koni adjustable shocks, hyperco rear springs with perch kits, and Eibach front springs. The konis allow me to soften the ride around town and stiffen it for enthusiastic driving. I upgraded the front sway bar to 1 1/4". Brake pads should be soft so it makes for very dirty wheels but it stops quickly. Kevlar green pads (for street use) work well and keep the wheels clean.

I've stayed with 15" wheels but use the Pirelli PZero in a 225 width. It made a substantial improvement over the z-rated Dunlop SP8000 205/50 15 that I previously drove on.

For about $5,000 US you can get a turbo kit from England or you can do as my neighbor has done. He purchased an SLK 230 supercharger off Ebay for $600 and now his 350 lb heavier 20 HP less US model leaves my Euro model permanently in his rearview mirror!

I have a 1987 pearl black 190e 16v, I am not sure how many owners. I work for a tow company and we towed this vehicle as an abandoned. I bought it for $500.00 It had no wheels tires, or driver side window. The right tail light was broken and the stereo was missing. I had a key made for it and found that the head gasket was blown. I took off the head, and found out that it was warped and need to be rebuilt. Until about a month ago I had no idea if I had any other problem. Put it back together, it runs great. It has 155k. I plan on adding a new exhaust system and a K&n filter. The body is in great shape, only minor dings. The interior is almost like new. I can't believe the positive response that I have gotten from the public. The next project is figuring out how to fix my sunroof.

love this site, it has helped me out a number of time. thanks to everyone that has responded to my questions.

Hurting 16 Valve Owner

Hey Dave and Paul I thought I would reply to both of your postings brecause you are both nearby. I live real close to Dave, I'm right down in Old Lyme. I have a jet black 86 190E 2.3 16V with black interior. I'm actually posting this on my fathers name. I'm only 16 (junior in high school) and i have had my liscense for about three months. My 190 was my fathers and he turned it over to me with 200,000 miles on it so as you can imagine it was driven a lot. And as soon as i get it things start to go wrong. It was running absolutely perfect when i first started driving it and my father took me up to Lyme on the backroads off of Grassy Hill and he got me very comfortable with the car, as well as letting me feel its capabilities up there. I had not been driving it long enough to really feel the problems as they happened but as i drive down the driveway my dad can just hear the trouble. I finally get a system put in for a little music and this happens. He took it out the other day and it was running horrible. At first we thought it was a spark problem so we checked the plugs and the number 1 cylinder was getting a horrible spark so we get new plugs and new plug connections in as well as a new distributer cap and rotor. After all that we fire up the car and pull the number one plug, sadly, no difference. So i take it to school and run a compression check on the number 1 cylinder and it is putting out an embarassing 23 psi. So i pull off the valve cover and check the gaps between the cam lobes and the tappets. The #1 exhaust and #1 intake both have zero clearence. Therefore neither valve is sealing. So we pull the tappets out and grind down each of the 16 shims under the tappets. This took an entire weekend and we finally finish and get it all back together and at idle we pull the #1 plug and still no difference, so we take it out and it is running excellent and it is hard to believe that it is still running on 3 cylinders. After all of that i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. If you do send them to my dad until i get me own name here.

As far as you guys go i would love to see any pics of any of your 16V's. Especially any EVO 2 kits. If i had any money i would put one on this car. Also anyone who has made some really successful mods, I'd love to hear about em and see some pics if you have any. Thanks

-Pete Smith

Count mine too

1990 190e 2.5-16v pearl black. I bought last year for $4500.00. Spent most of the year fixing stuff that the previous owner had neglected (02 sensor didn't work and stuff like that).

Current modifications:
Removed cat. and put a N.E.S sport exhaust
The SLS has been removed by the previous owner

Future mods:
Definitely a turbo
K&N filter

Talking My 16V baby

Hi everyone.

I have a 1987 16V.

Pearl Black 97K. My family is the second to own it. My dad brought it over from Europe in 1989. I got it in Nov of 2000. Since my folks never drove it (20k in 10 years) I had to sink a boat load of cash into it.

New Trans (ouch)
Condenser
Rear SLS shocks and nitrogen things
tie rods, drag link and steering arm
front shocks
It still needs a new exhaust. (probably Timevalve)
Evo II Titanium 17" wheels
K&N filter

Upgraded sound system including MB Quart 4 1/2" component in the dash, MB Quart 5 1/2" Bi-axial in the rear, 150W Pioneer Premier amp in (Pioneer tested it at 277 watts wooooo hooo), 10" Punch sub with box and a Kenwood 801 MP3 player.

I have a set of ATE sloted disks, mintex pads, and clear side turn signals on the way from Bekkers.

I LOVE MY 16V AND THEY WILL HAVE TO PRY MY COLD DEAD HANDS OFF THE STEERING WHEEL!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe I have been on this site for so long and never replied to this thread. Anyways, I purchased my 16V in April of 2000 in stock form. So I've had it for over 2 years now and here's all my mods in my sig including Euro headlights(Bosch), clear corners, and carbon fiber interior(custom).
