supercharged intercooled m104
Hello, I am new to this forum and was just inquiring about any interest in performance parts for m104 engines. I have browsed this forum and have seen some nice work. I have been working on a supercharger system for my 300ce coupe for about 7 years. I now have and 1994 fuel injected m104 with a custom intake and whipple supercharger with spearco air/water intercooler and electromotive fuel injection. I make about 300 rwhp. I have also just installed and am tuning a 722.6 5speed with a stand alone tcm. I have recently
been looking at remaking my system for a nicer looking package and was curious if people would be interested. I also was thinking that the new intake I am making would work for turbo cars also. I am making the intercooler in the intake. This would require a front mount radiator and water resevoir and a pump. This is a good solution for w124's since there is not much room up front for air/air. Just looking for some feed back. thanks |

How about some pics? I'm sure everyone would like to see your work.

I can send some pictures although currently things aren't to pretty. I have been focused on gaining more power not asthetics up till this point. I also am planning on completely changing the layout.

looks like a practical functional system,
what have u used for ignition timing and fuel control? |

I have electromotive tec3r stand alone fuel injection with larger injectors.

Very interesting project.
Tell me more about the transmission side of things. What engine does the 722.6 come form that then mates to the M104? I thought the M104 only came with the 722.3 and 722.5? What ecu are you using to control the tranny? Is is commercially available? I assume you have had to do a custom fit for it? Thanks! |

The transmission I have is from a c230k. The .6 came on any car 1996 v8's and 1997 all cars in the U.S. The bell housing on and m104 and m111 are the same. The tcm is from a company called Powertrain Control Solutions.
The tune is very difficult. I have been working with the company on solving all the problems, still in progress. I have considered offering that as a package or an install at my shop. But I would like to get a little further. It works just fine but the shifts are not consistently good. A little to firm for some mercedes clients. Good for racing though. |

Cool, thanks for that.
Are the shifts firm becasue you modified the valve body for greater line pressure as well or is it currently just a function of the PCS TCM control? |

I have not made any changes to the valve body. The tcm has complete control over all the shift solenoids. It can increase and decrease pressures and shift time. I can have a shift so hard it will jerk the tires loose at low throttle.
The trick is getting shift soft enough. I could easily supply a set up that hammered through all the gears. The install is not bad. The hardest part of the install is replacing the shifter with the new style shifter and cutting and the shift rod for proper length. The inputs needed are throttle position, shifter, and wheel speed. |

Hmm, I'm interested.
Are you a member of any other forums ? Where in Seattle are you ? I get up there at least twice a year. :-) neil |

Yes, I have joined a couple of forums recently. I have been playing with all of this for about 8 years and have just decided that the different layout possibilities that I have come up with are good enough to offer up. The m103 and m104 are strong enough to handle much more power than I am producing and the cars and engines have come down in price enough to go for more.
I am currently working on lower compression and either a much bigger blower or going turbo. The 722.6 has been recent and is working well beyond my expectations. I am actually on the east side of lake washington in the bellevue-issaquah area. |

Wait, so your saying you got the 5 speed to work with the M104? With a stand alone controller?
I think people are and would be super interested in this, especially the 500E guys...

Yes I have a 722.6 5 speed in a 124. It could be retrofitted into most cars.
Any m103, m104, m111, m102, m119, m117, m120 Engine. Basically as long as you can bolt the bell housing up, you can do the install. It requires the new shifter from the early 722.6 cars, say 1996-1999. The only inputs required are vehicle speed and throttle position or map. The tuning has been extremely difficult. The control unit is from a company called powertrain control solutions. They had it in a military spec vehicle with a 722.6 and I decided to give it a try. I am a mercedes tech and trained on the transmission. This did not even begin to prepare me for making it work properly. I ended up scoping another car for all the duty cycles and hertz and time on for the solenoids and finding the function to program as close as possible in the TCM. I have been working with PCS for software modifications to rectify problems in the operation. At this point I have a reliable transmission that does not break my neck when it shifts, but some of the shifts are still harder than I would like. I am waiting for more tuning for a software change from PCS. I have a glitch in solenoid time tables from previous patch. It will work pretty well and the company is committed to working on the application for future use. |

Damn, do you mind if I link your thread to some other sites?
I know of several people that would be interested in your solution.
