Exhaust
I see Rik uses 3" pipe in his exhaust system...factory specs according to magnaflow are 2.25"....any thoughts? can you use the factory hangers unmodified with a 3" or should I just keep it at 2.25"? Magnaflow #94005 is the cat and #11255 is the muffler. Chime in if you have time 2phast..thanks to all in advance.

I replaced the whole exhaust from the cats back. All the factory mount locations were used of course and hangers were fabricated and welded to the exhaust/pipe. I had the rear magaflow tucked up where the stock exhaust is and some custom pipe was formed/cut to come down so the tips could be attached. This setup has a nice Corvette rumble to it now. Not really noticable inside the car, unless your accelerating.
As for the pipe, I am sure 2.5 or 2.75" pipe would be fine as well, but there is enough room for 3" pipe if you elect to use it. Thanks for the comments on the site. Tools like Microsofts Expression Web allow you to design web sites and since mine is not complicated, just about anyone can make one similar. |

Just put a rear mount turbo in there and call it a day If a q45 engine can do 8psi stock and roast tires, think of what a much better built 500e enigne could do lol. Im a turbo freak, please ignore me .

I have all the mods you are considering... BW FGS, ASR defeat, Y-pipe, Remus muffler, and 1992 LH module with eBay chip. Oh, and a high-volume Silver Carbon airbox, too. Dyno'd at 280hp (corrected) at the wheels. Serious power gains require forced induction or increased displacement, either one will likely lighten your wallet by at least $10k, and require lots of custom work.
The 1992 LH module will add 7hp, and at the dragstrip, it's worth a consistent 0.1 second a 1mph in the quarter mile. The chip does NOTHING except possibly remove the top speed limiter (mine is de-limited, but I can't say the chip is responsible). Rik says the chip did away with the cold upshift delay on his car, but mine still has the delay with the chip. DO NOT expect power gains from ANY chip, no matter what they claim. I've got back to back dragstrip runs proving they are a placebo. There is a Euro cat-free exhaust pipe available, but it will set you back about $600 including shipping from Germany, and so far nobody has dyno or dragstrip data to prove if it is worth any power or if it just adds noise. Dave, If it wasn't the chip that removed the top speed limiter, what was it then? If there is another way to remove the top speed limiter, I'd like to know about it. What is your top speed now? With the 2.82s, aren't you already near the 6,000 RPM redline at 155 MPH?
BTW, I ran a corrected 14.59 on our "Test and Tune" day that nobody showed up for. Remember, my goal was a 14.7. That was in total street trim, no ice on the intake, no playing with tire pressures, no special tires, no weight removal, eng. temp. at 80c, first time at a dragstrip in 14 years. I'll post a full report if Scott ever gets the site back up again. It will be good reading! Regards, Eric |

It seems pretty simple, only 4 wires to connect, but nobody knows how it works. With 2.82 gears and 500E tires (which are larger diameter than 400E tires), it will pull to 6400rpm in top gear, for a GPS-indicated 161mph (speedo pegged at 160 when the GPS only indicated ~150, lol). New tires would add 1-2mph. A "corrected" 14.59 is pretty impressive for a 4.2L... what was the raw time (and speed), and at what elevation? Ice on the intake is mostly a waste of time... BT, DT. Tire pressure only matters if you're dealing with wheelspin, otherwise leave it as high as possible (lower rolling resistance). Engine temp 80° is perfect, it will slow down if it's much hotter. Scott's site is still DOA, but at the moment we're mostly moved over to the new *********.com until Scott gets 'Ecstasy going again... |

I hate having to use a correction but you have to in order to compare to other's times on other days at other tracks and remember, the magazine times are corrected as well. Conditions on the money run: 73 degrees F, Bar. press. 30.11, Rel. density 93.96%, Density altitude 2113 feet, 14.959@93.81 U.C. which was another goal met: an uncorrected 14. The 60 foot time was 2.396 U.C. on that run. The corrected MPH was 96.219. I had 2 rims and tires in the trunk for traction. Without them it was wheelspin city. With them there was none at all. Amazing the difference a little weight back there made. Also was running a half tank of fuel that day. You are right about the eng. temp. The car slows by 3 tenths with just a tiny rise above 80c. I myself have stated it before that the eng. temp. makes a huge difference. It's something we are going to address (along with that knappy OPS nanny) in the future. Many thanks to you Dave for your help and your site. I credit you with a large part of this 7 tenths gain!
