How much HP can the stock 3.0L CIS Fuel distributor handle? Think it could handle the 3.6L M103, so roughly 245HP? (245HP, 365NM/270Ft-Lb I found)

Just curious....how much would I be expecting to throw down to turbo a 103? I would do all the labor obviously. Parts-wise...?

My M103 appears to be stock dist and CIS fuel management. RT used larger pistons, stroke, cam, and headwork to produce 255hp.

The way carat 3.6 did it, is so much WIN. Complete top half of a CIS M104 with the bottom half of C36...nice. By the time you sell the extras from the C36 donor engine, the project is half paid for. Then it just drops in with easy harness/ecu change. I'd say it's at least 1/4 the cost of turbos/custom m103 with none of the headache and STOCK Mercedes reliability. I am starting to collect parts soon. I don't envision paying more than $2,000 total with careful parts sourcing

OMG. A 1990 300CE just popped into the local junkyards database this evening. And tomorrow is 25% off day. I've got wood

So depending on the mileage, I may or may not pull the head/intake. I just won't have enough time tomorrow. Does anyone know if the intake manifold is the same for the CIS M104 vs CIS M103?

I will for sure grab: Wiring harness, ECU, Airbox, EZL, Tach, Fuel Dist + Injectors.

Jhon, the m103 manifolds wont fit the m104, so grab the complete inlet manifold/metering head setup and the exhaust manifolds as well. You dont need the down pipes as the m103 item is the same. If you can, take the entire timing chain and front cover setup. Your m103 oil filter housing will fit the m104, but if you want an oil cooler you will need the m104 parts. (the oil cooler lives infront of the drivers wheel). Also dont forget the 2 knock sensors bolted to the block under the inlet manifold.

Yeah. I just looked up pictures of the intake gaskets and they are indeed different. I think it will be easy enough to remove the entire intake manifold tomorrow as one piece with all the CIS attached.

Thanks for the tips on the knock sensors and oil cooler. I should be able to get everything minus the head for around $100-150. Major score. That just lowered the project cost by half. Lets hope nobody beats me to it.

Whatever happened to this project/thread? Did you build the 3.6 M103 24v?

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but does anyone know the reason behind this? I stumbled across this thread and I have access to a C36 block with bad head/broken cams and a CIS M104.980 cylinder head. I am in the perfect place to make a frankenstein engine like this, but I'd like to understand this part first. Is it just for setting up basic timing correctly against the C36 block? Or does the variable cam advance change the degree advancement when using the C36 sprocket?

I believe the early m104 advancer has much more advanced and use on a 36 would cause valves to hit the pistons.

Please correct me if I'm wrong

The 36 advancer is 18 degrees and I believe the 3.0 is 26.
